Pravda by Jean-Luc Godard( Visual )

2 editions published between 1969 and 2008 in French and English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Vent d'est. This film is located somewhere between filmic essay and political tract. It was intended as a specifically Brechtian project in which the conventions of illusionistic film narrative are stripped away in both the film's form and its analysis. History (of cinema) is presented as a set of problems rather than facts. The first part initiates a critique of Eisenstein, Dziga Vertov and Third World Cinema; a fragmentary Marxist Western follows. The second part is devoted to a critique of Godard's own work, of cinema verite, the American Underground film, of socialist realism and of Hollywood. Bourgeois realism (represented by a Hollywood 'star') and Third World Cinema (represented by the presence of Brazilian Glauber Rocha) are both rejected. The film then extends its attack to revisionism and anarchism culminating in a return to the Western. The Indians rise from the dead and eliminate their oppressors
