This publication, produced in conjunction with Richard Wright's 2009 exhibition at Gagosian Gallery in London, presents Wright's unique visual and spatial language in which he paints directly onto walls, ceilings, corners and other more liminal spaces of architecture. In doing so, he reasserts the power of incidental details that adorn the edges of our designed world in his response to the individual character of the elected space. Moving beyond the limits of early conceptualism with its stated arbitrariness, Wright paints each of these works himself with almost medieval precision. Wright was pronounced the winner for the 2009 Turner Prize where his work was on view at Tate Britain from October 6, 2009 to January 3, 2010.--Gagosian gallery

Richard Wright in the Rijksmuseum by Richard Wright( Book )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, has unveiled two newly commissioned large-scale ceiling paintings by the British Turner Prize-winning artist Richard Wright. The site-specific permanent installation is situated in two antechambers located to the left and right of the museum's Night Watch Gallery, where Rembrandt's celebrated painting will hang. Featuring complex patterns with more than 47,000 thousand hand-painted black stars on a whitebackground, the artwork is inspired by the original 19th centurydecorative wall and ceiling paintings designed by the architect of the Rijksmuseum, Pierre Cuypers. 0 Through his unique painting methods applied directly onto walls, Richard Wright injects intricate works into often overlooked architectural spaces. The Rijksmuseum commission shows a departure from the artist's earlier paintings, which are often short-lived, only surviving the length of an exhibition and are then painted over.0 Wim Pijbes, General Director of the Rijksmuseum, said: "Richard Wright's ceiling paintings are an inspiring response to the transformed Rijksmuseum and its collections, and a wonderful addition to our new home." Exhibition: Permanent exhibition, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
