Mr. Zogby's lecture describes the major themes of his new book "The way we'll be" which discusses the changing nature of the "American Dream." Because many people are working jobs which pay less than their previous jobs, Americans are changing the way they define the "American Dream." It is becoming less about material acquisition and more about a new "secular spiritualism" which incorporates adjusted expectations and a desire to simplify. Because baby boomers are living longer, they are discovering new ways to use the years between 60 and 80. Zogby is excited about the age group 18-29 because he believes they are more likely to identify themselves as citizens of the world. Regarding the 2008 election, Zogby says Americans are looking for five qualities in their new president: someone who is a good problem solver, who is willing to work across the aisle, someone who is able to manage the government effectively, someone who is able to command the military and someone who has strong personal values. Zogby points to the aftermath of hurricane Katrina as a defining moment when the American people got the clear message that the government was not working. Americans want an authentic leader to be their next president
