Vivaldis L'oracolo in Messenia hadde sin premiere i Venezia i 1738, men ble omskrevet av mesteren selv til debuten i Wien to år senere. Vivaldi håpet den skulle fremføres under byens karneval i 1741, men i oktober 1740 døde Keiser Karl VI, og alle landets teatre ble stengt for ett års landesorg. Rett etterpå døde Vivaldi selv, og han fikk dermed aldri se L'oracolo på scenen. Nå er operaen rekonstruert av Vivaldi-eksperten Fabio Bondi, og dette opptaket er er verdenspremieren som åpnet en festival i Wien i 2011
