Four episodes of an anime television series. Episode 9. They hold a beauty pageant to celebrate the Macross' new television station. Minmay breaks a date with Hikaru to participate in the pageant. Episode 10. The crew of the Macross learn that they will not be recieving any aid from the U.N. Forces High Command, while the Zentradi attack and capture Misa, Hikaru, and Kakizaki in order to study humans. Episode 11. The Zentradi Supreme Commander, Bodolzaa interviews the humans discovering that they possess a "protoculture." Minmay makes her singing debut on the Macross. Episode 12. The human captives escape but the Zendradi sneak spies aboard the Macross disguised as humans

The Zentradi find the Macross and attack it, forcing Captain Global to transform the ship even at the cost of destroying some of the rebuilt city inside it. Roy and Minmay suggest Hikaru join the military so he can continue fighting. Episode 6. The Macross approaches Saturn with the Zentradi in pursuit. The Macross' bridge operator, Hayase Misa, develops a new kind of attack to save to ship. Episode 7. The Zentradi trap the Macross using an abandoned base on Mars. Misa is forced to blow up the base's nuclear reactor to free the ship. She is then trapped at the base and Hikaru is sent to rescue her. Episode 8. On Minmay's sixteenth birthday Hikaru gets promoted and the Zentradi commander, Kamjin Kravshera attacks

Kamjin disobeys orders and attacks the Macross, just outside Earth's atmosphere. Episode 14. Captain Global reports all of the Macross' activities to the U.N. Forces Headquarters. Episode 15. Minmay visits her parents in Yokohama and they accompany her back to the Macross. Senior U.N. officials disagree with some of Global and Misa's findings on the Zentradi and refuse to allow peace negotiations. Episode 16. Kaifun is reunited with his parents while the three Zentradi spies continue to adjust to life with culture

Episode 34. Trouble arises in the relationships between Hikaru and Misa, and Kaifun and Minmay. Episode 35. Kamjin and his group find a Zentradi warship and work to repair it using techniques learned from the humans. In 1999, a city-sized alien spacecraft crashes on Earth, and over the course of 10 years the humans rebuild the spacecraft just before a fleet of Zentradi warships arrive on the hunt for the ship belonging to their enemy, the Supervision Army. Meanwhile, a young civilian pilot, Hikaru Ichijyo, comes of age and struggles with a love triangle between Lynn Minmay (a rising pop singer) and Misa Hayase (a dedicated bridge officer). During the war that ensues, the human crew operating the untested alien ship find themselves stranded on the edge of the solar system, with refugees from the city that grew around the restored space craft living within the ship. It will take a year to return to Earth, and the Zentradi are intent on destroying them
