Cancer prevention : the causes and prevention of cancer by Graham A Colditz( )

in English and held by 374 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This Cancer Prevention book series aims to complement the research reported in the journal Cancer Causes and Control. Volumes in this series will summarize the state of the science from causes to prevention of cancer. The scope will be international. The past 20 years has seen an explosion of epidemiologic material on the causes of cancer. Examples include the growing number of studies of physical activity and colon cancer which have emerged and the numerous studies of components of diet such as alcohol and the risk of specific cancers. Major shifts in resource allocation now focus on translation of this new knowledge to actual cancer prevention programs. Researchers, practicing clinicians, and those who write and implement public health policy need this information summarized in an easily accessible format. The abundance of knowledge, increasing understanding of how to communicate risk of cancer to the public, and greater public awareness of cancer, make the coming years ones in which we will see many new attempts at widespread cancer prevention programs. For example, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched a national colon cancer awareness campaign in early 1999

Is Samuel among the Deuteronomists? : current views on the place of Samuel in a Deuteronomistic history by Cynthia Edenburg( )

in English and held by 371 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The book of Samuel tells the story of the origins of kingship in Israel in what seems to be an artistically structured, flowing narrative. Yet it is also marked by an inconsistent outlook, divergent styles, and breaks in the narrative. According to Noth's Deuteronomistic History hypothesis, the Deuteronomistic historian constructed the narrative by piecing together early sources and generally refrained from commenting in his own voice. Recent studies have called into question the extent of Samuel's sources and their redaction history, as well as the textual growth of the book as a whole. The essays in this book, representing the latest scholarship on the subject, reexamine whether the book of Samuel was ever part of a Deuteronomistic History. (back cover)

The Labour Party in Britain and Norway : elections and the pursuit of power between the world wars by David Redvaldsen( Book )

1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 80 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Labour Party in Britain and Norway offers an in-depth analysis of the fate of each party as they approached the crucial general elections of the 1920's and 1930's, and the way in which they responded to the realities of power under the leaderships of Ramsay MacDonald and Clement Attlee in Britain, and Christopher Homsrud and Johan Nygaardsvold in Norway. It asks what made each party successful, and by proposing that the Labour Party of Norway was the more successful of the two, draws important conclusions that have resonance for the study of socialist and political parties in general. Here, Redvaldsen offers a unique insight into the rise and expansion of the Labour parties of Britain and Norway, something which will have utmost relevance not only to students and researchers of left-wing politics but also to those interested in the nature of the pursuit of power itself in the crucial interwar period. --Book Jacket
