When Britain's Secretary Of State For International Development Simon Foster states, in the midst of a radio interview, that a war in the Middle East in "unforeseeable," it doesn't follow his government's "line" on events. The problem is that war is not unforeseeable, what with America itching to invade somewhere in the Middle East and the British government loyally following. Unfortunately, Foster suspects nothing about the firestorm to follow. By the next day, Foster is the target of the Prime Minister's director of communications Malcolm Tucker, and the focus of attention for anti-war American diplomat Karen Clarke. After US General George Miller and State Department hawk Linton Barwick jump into the mix, Foster's mountain of an ill-chosen remark turns into a series of festering molehills. In the end, one thing is clear: grave matters involving global power cannot be separated from the pettiness of democratic governance, which is impelled by careerism, vanity, moral compromise and--at least in London--by ear-singeing profanity

The audacity of hype : bewilderment, sleaze and other tales of the 21st century by Armando Iannucci( Book )

1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 72 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Armando Iannucci cuts straight to the heart of the insanity and sherbet-headed nonsense of modern life. THE AUDACITY OF HYPE brings together his views on diverse subjects, ranging from wickedly funny pen portraits of the sometimes loveable, usually despicable chumps who like to think of themselves as our political elite, and their bonkers schemes to save the world that are in fact likely to do us more harm than a pile of witches, to WMD, disaster movies, the pitfalls of 'I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here' and the high and mighty rhetoric of Obama, this is an absurdly entertaining and utterly indispensable collection from one of Britain’s most brilliant satirists."--Publisher's description

'It's the kind of f***-up that would normally have Malcolm Tucker, Number 10's Communications Director, the master of spin and the "Matrix" spitting blood ... No, the guilty party in this instance is none other than Tucker himself. The man who likes to keep an iron grip on every news item in the media and every policy announcement that comes out of the government, has only gone and LEFT A CONFIDENTIAL FILE ON A TRAIN: The DoSAC Files.'Based around the idea that King of Spin Malcolm Tucker has lost a confidential and highly-damaging file on a train, this book is a collection of highly sensitive documents: personnel files, policy drafts, letters and emails, transcripts of phone calls, election campaign documents and top secret papers on the government's media strategy for wars and recessions. There are also more personal documents such as the early drafts of Tucker's diary, in no legal condition for publication. It's explosive stuff, which could end careers on both sides, including Tucker's own...From the team behind the award-winning and phenomenally successful The Thick Of It, and the Oscar-nominated In The Loop, comes the official tie-in book, The DoSAC Files. Written by the show's creator Armando Iannucci along with his co-writers Jesse Armstrong, Tony Roche, Simon Blackwell and swearing consultant Ian Martin, The DoSAC Files looks set to be the political satire event of the year

Alan partridge, alpha papa : script (and scrapped) by Steve Coogan( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The official script for the box-office smash movie, featuring every ruddy word (and stage direction) of Alan's seamless transformation from natural-born broadcaster into fully fledged and occasionally fully dressed hostage negotiator. Contains deleted scenes and an exclusive Foreword by Steve Coogan. With a television career behind him and a much-coveted breakfast slot in his spiritual home, regional digital radio, there was only one place left for Alan Partridge to turn: Hollywood! Or rather, an Anglo-French funded co-production for the big screen. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa sees Alan face his biggest challenge since he spent six months in a travel tavern, and is almost certainly the first time he has handled a loaded gun since he was a prime-time BBC2 presenter. When his beloved income-source North Norfolk Digital is taken over by a faceless media conglomerate, Alan's inimitable instinct for self-preservation leads to a violent and bloody siege on the radio station by an unhinged, nay mentalist, DJ, and a hostage crisis for which there can be only one man with the chat to diffuse it ...Featuring a cast of old and new Partridge favourites, including Sidekick Simon, assistant Lynn and Michael the Geordie, Alpha Papa is proof that while the jury's out on whether you can keep a good man down, it's an outright fact that you can't keep a good regional broadcaster off the airwaves."--Publisher description
