Samantha non si sente (e non è per nulla) desiderata e, non appena Dov si arruola nella Brigata Ebraica per combattere il nazismo in Europa, allaccia una relazione con Kalkovsky, un libraio tedesco che vive con Silvia, una terrorista anti-britannica. Intanto Kalman, fratello di Samantha, raggiunge la Palestina con un'idea capitalistico-avventurosa delle sue possibili imprese. Nel momento in cui Dov torna dalla guerra vantando lo stupro di una tedesca, Samantha lo lascia e il libraio, appresa la morte dei propri genitori, compie una scelta estrema. Amos Gitai rappresenta la coscienza vigile del cinema israeliano non accecato dall'odio per il "nemico" palestinese.
