"Katharina Blum falls in love at a party with a young radical lawbreaker in flight from the police. Her brief association with a hunted man brings her under police surveillance and makes her the cruelly exploited subject of cheap newspaper sensationalism. Paraded across the front pages of a big-city daily newspaper, portrayed as a whore, an atheist, a Communist sympathizer, she becomes the target of anonymous phonecalls and letters, sexual advances and threats which culminates in a dramatic finale." -- Publisher

Der amerikanische Freund = American friend by Wim Wenders( Visual )

15 editions published between 1977 and 2009 in 4 languages and held by 438 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This film is a result of Wender's enthusiasm for Patricia Highsmith's novels and also of his fascination with America which preoccupied him until his return to Berlin to make Wings of Desire. The plot, concerning forgery rackets, remains subsidiary to mood. Amidst moving trains and changing landscapes the new world of the American gangster invades the Germany of the dying artisan Ganz. Wenders said that he equates American film directors with gangsters and here cast directors Hopper, Nick Ray and Sam Fuller as the art racketeers

In this suspense-filled crime thriller Dennis Hopper plays Ripley, a tortured, thoroughly amoral jet-set cowboy and art forger tied up with some sort of international art forgery ring, which in turn competes with a couple of rival branches of the Mafia. He befriends and then manipulates an innocent young Hamburg picture-framer named Jonathan Zimmerman (Bruno Ganz) who is suffering from a fatal blood-disease. Through a third party Ripley persuades Zimmerman to commit a murder for the Mafia in Paris in return for a large sum of money that he can leave to his wife and son after his death. He kills once without remorse but then finds he must accept a second assignment. Ripley, who at first seems completely cynical and manipulative, comes to admire and then love the stolid, family-bound German craftsman, while Zimmerman, at first appalled by the insane new life he's leading, discovers the exhilaration of committing a totally amoral act. The movie is both a thriller and a meditation on personal identity

Wings of desire is one of cinema's loveliest city symphonies. Bruno Ganz is Damiel, an angel perched atop buildings high over Berlin who can hear the thoughts, fears, hopes, dreams, of all the people living below. But when he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he is willing to give up his immortality and come back to earth to be with her. Made not long before the fall of the Berlin wall, this stunning tapestry of sounds and images, shot in black and white and color by the legendary Henri Alekan, is movie poetry. "The first of the road films that would come to define the career of Wim Wenders, the magnificent Alice in the Cities is an emotionally generous and luminously shot odyssey. A German journalist (Rüdiger Vogler) is driving across the United States to research an article; it's a disappointing trip, during which he is unable to truly connect with what he sees. Things change, however, when he has no choice but to take a young girl named Alice (Yella Rottländer) with him on his return trip to Germany, after her mother (Lisa Kreuzer)--whom he has just met--leaves the child in his care. 2 editions published in 2016 in German and held by 89 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Seeking inspiration to help him escape his creative funk, he instead discovers the limits of attempts to refashion one's identity. The road trilogy : Alice in the cities ; Wrong move ; Kings of the road( Visual )

1 edition published in 2016 in German and held by 28 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In the 1970s, Wim Wenders was among the first true international breakthrough artists of the revolutionary New Germain Cinema movement, a filmmaker whose fascination with the physical landscapes and emotional contours of the open road proved to be universal. In the middle of that decade, Wenders embarked on a three-film journey that took him from the wide roads of Germany to the endless highways of the United States and back again. Each starring Rüdiger Vogler as the director's alter ego, Alice in the cities, Wrong move, and Kings of the road are dramas of emotional transformation that follow their characters' searches for themselves, all rendered with uncommon soulfulness and visual poetry."--Container
