"Hitlerjunge Quex: Ein Film vom Opfergeist der deutschen Jugend is a 1933 German film directed by Hans Steinhoff, based on the 1932 novel Hitler Youth Quex. The film was shown in the US under the title Our Flag Leads Us Forward. The year is 1931, and young Heini Volker has a problem. His unemployed father demands he join Berlin's young communists, but after a bad experience on a camping trip, Heini is drawn to the Hitler Youth. How Heini resolves this quandry is the story of Hitlerjunge Quex, a movie that became central to the moral instruction of young Germans throughout the Nazi years. Produced in 1933, just months after Hitler's ascension to power, Hitlerjunge Quex drew from the real-life story of Herbert Norkus, a Hitler Youth killed by communist street-fighters in 1932."--From Kanopy website

During this period, Ruhmann falls in love and gains a whole new lease on life. The climax arrives when Heini betrays his parents to the Nazi hierarchy, preventing an anarchist attack and preserving the Hitlerian status quo
