Edward Schillebeeckx and contemporary theology by L Boeve( )

8 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 1,056 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What are contemporary theologys challenges? What are its fruitful approaches? Who are its promising contributors? The contributions to this collection of essays try to find answers to these questions by making references to the Dutch Dominican scholar Edward Schillebeeckx, using his theology as a starting point for an up-to-date investigation and discussion. The theological work of Edward Schillebeeckx marks the transition from a pre-modern to a modern approach to Christian faith, Church, and theology. Already more than two generations of theologians have been trained in dialogue with his thought. Contemporary theology testifies, often implicitly, to the enduring relevance of many of Schillebeeckx's insights, while in other instances it pushes his thinking to its limits in order to deal with the current challenges for faith and society
The question of theological truth : philosophical and interreligious perspectives by Frederiek Depoortere( )

7 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 917 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In today?s world, the boundaries within which Christian theologians operate are becoming ever more permeable, and Christian theology is increasingly influenced and challenged by multiple?outside? factors. In Western Europe, two such factors stand out in particular: the so-called?turn to religion? in continental philosophy and religious diversity. Theologians working with contemporary continental philosophers and theologians engaging the multireligious world tend to work quite separately from one another. The aim of the present book is therefore to initiate a conversation between these two gr

The death of God : an investigation into the history of the Western concept of God by Frederiek Depoortere( Book )

5 editions published in 2008 in English and Spanish and held by 135 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"How did the idea of the 'Death of God' come about, where were its origins? Frederiek Depoortere presents a fascinating investigation into the history of the concept of God through Greek philosophy, Mediaeval theology and the Reformation to Early Modern philosophy. He proves that the roots of modern secularism can be traced back to the epistemology of the first metaphysicians of Greek philosophy and the Christian theologians and thinkers, who further developed their concepts."--Jacket
Paul in the grip of the philosophers : the apostle and contemporary Continental philosophy by Peter Frick( Book )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 134 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"One of the remarkable developments in the contemporary study of Paul is the dramatic interest in his thought amongst European philosophers. This collection of insights from leading scholars makes accessible a discussion often elusive to those not already conversant in the categories of European philosophy".-- Résumé de l'éditeur

Facing Abraham : seven readings of Søren Kierkegaard's Fear and trembling( Book )

3 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 50 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This collection brings together seven essays that link Fear and Trembling not only with other philosophers, such as Adorno, Heidegger and Westphal, but also as it is related to the so-called 'non-metaphysical' approach to Hegel and to the debate on the 'ethics of belief'. Questions are raised about Fear and Trembling and religious diversity, historical criticism, and authorial intent, and the work is approached from within poetry (Erik Johan Stagnelius) and drama (Paul Claudel), and also from within one contributor's personal experiences with theological education. In this way, the seven contributions brought together in the present book offer something of a panoramic view on Fear and Trembling, a view that may inspire to either turn or return to Kierkegaard's most famous book, and let oneself, for the first time or once more, be challenged, disturbed, and maybe even repelled by this text that reflects on a father that is, or at least seems, willing to sacrifice his only son because God ordered him to do so. --Book cover
