Les expressions de la quantité en latin : quantifiants, quantifieurs et la quantification mid-scalaire par multus et magnus by
Laurent Moonens(
)
1 edition published in 2019 in French and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Several delicate issues are related to the Latin expressions of quantity. Their definition, to start with, is already problematic (should one adopt a definition that supposes a prior knowledge of their semantics, or an « internal » definition ?). Also, irregularities appear in the expression of quantity for massive nouns. Finally, the evolution of the language modifies the quantifying nature of some important terms (quot, quantus and their correlatives). This thesis has three main objectives: proposing an « internal » definition of quantifier, studying irregularities in the expression of mid-scalar quantification by multus and magnus, and the semantic evolution of quantus, quot and their correlatives, from classical to late Latin

Sintaxis y semántica de los nombres de sentimiento en latín empleos adverbales y colocaciones by Cristina Tur Altarriba(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2019 in Spanish and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The main goal of this doctoral dissertation is to describe the collocational radius of five predicate nouns that belong to the semantic field of feelings: odium «hatred», invidia «envy, unpopularity», laetitia «joy», gaudium «delight» and timor «fear». To this end, we analyze their argumental and syntactic structure from the perspective of Functional Grammar, enriched, on the one hand, with the formalization of Meaning-Text Theory and, on the other, with the Theory of the Conceptual Metaphor of Cognitive Semantics. In addition to this general objective, the dissertation comprises other secondary objectives which are related to the syntactic-semantic characterization of the collocations as well as to theoretical aspects. In order to characterize the collocative expressions based on the aforementioned nouns, we have identified and classified their syntactic-semantic types, and we have established the semantic and syntactic differences between the collocations and the corresponding simple verbal structures (odi vs. odium habeo / in odio sum, etc.). Additionally, when significant data are available we have highlighted the diachronic evolution and formal renewal of collocations, as well as their differences of use in prose and poetry
