Money : why do we take risks?( Visual )

in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

In the aftermath of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, Money: Why Do We Take Risks? is a penetrating exploration of why mainstream economists failed to predict the crash of 2008. To a group of scientists, called behavioural economists, the crash of 2008 was no surprise. Their experiments show our behaviour is bizarre when it comes to making decisions about money, with the mind often acting irrationally. Jennifer Lerner, a social psychologist at Harvard University, studies how emotions affect our financial decisions. A new study she and her team are conducting has revealed, among other things, how anger and sadness have very different effects on our economic choices. Behavioural economists challenge the dominant economic philosophy in business and government for the last five decades - the common assumption that when it comes to their money, people are highly rational and will make good, even optimal decisions in terms of maximising their wealth. In the face of the recent financial crash, the program asks whether the science of behavioural economics, which aims to incorporate human psychology into finance, can help us make better financial decisions
