International development policy : energy and development by Switzerland) Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Geneva( Book )

7 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in English and held by 137 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

International Development Policy is a critical source of analyses of development policy trends and international cooperation for scholars, policy-makers, development professionals and journalists. It offers a diverse range of academic views from industrialised countries as well as emerging economies. Each book presents in-depth coverage of a chosen theme, and focuses on the latest trends in finance, trade and development. This collection examines the energy-development nexus: how it has intensified in recent years, how it shapes geopolitics and access to energy in Africa and it highlights how patchy energy governance is. The authors explore today's energy policy options in developing countries and emerging economies while questioning the role of development aid. --Back cover

New perspectives on the end of the Cold War : unexpected transformations?( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 68 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This collection of essays makes a significant contribution to the historiography of the end of the Cold War. Research on the causes and consequences of the end of the Cold War is constantly growing. Initially, it was dominated by fairly simplistic, and often politically motivated, debates revolving around the role played by major "winners" and "losers". This volume addresses a number of diverse issues and seeks to challenge several "common wisdoms" about the end of the Cold War. Together, the contributions provide insights on the role of personalities as well as the impact of transnational movements and forces on the unexpected political transformations of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Geographically, the chapters largely focus on the United States, Europe, with special emphasis on Germany, and the Soviet Union. The individual chapters are drawn together by the overarching theme relating to a particular "common wisdom": were the transformations that occurred truly "unexpected"? This collection of essays will make an important contribution to the growing literature on the developments that produced the collapse of the Iron Curtain, the demise of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. This volume will be of much interest to students of Cold War Studies, International History, European Politics and International Relations in general."--Provided by publisher
Small Arms Survey 2012 : moving targets by Geneva Small Arms Survey( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 61 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Small Arms Survey 2012 seeks to increase our scrutiny of what is changing, and not changing, in relation to armed violence and small arms proliferation. Chapters on firearm homicide in Latin America and the Caribbean, drug violence in selected Latin American countries and non-lethal violence worldwide illustrate that security is a moving target; armed violence, both lethal and non-lethal, continues to undermine the security and wellbeing of people and societies around the world. The goal of curbing small arms proliferation, embodied in the UN Programme of Action, appears similarly elusive. Chapters on illicit small arms in war zones, trade transparency, Somali piracy and the 2011 UN Meeting of Governmental Experts highlight some of the successes, but also the continuing challenges, in this area. -- Publisher description

Small arms survey 2013 : everyday dangers by Small Arms Survey( )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 52 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Small Arms Survey 2013 explores the many faces of armed violence outside the context of armed conflict. Chapters on the use of firearms in intimate partner violence, the evolution of gangs in Nicaragua, Italian organised crime groups, and trends in armed violence in South Africa describe the dynamics and effects of gun violence in the home and on the street. Many of the chapters in the 'weapons and markets' section zero in on the use of specific weapons by particular armed actors, such as drug-trafficking organisations and insurgents. These include chapters on the prices of arms and ammunition at illicit markets in Lebanon, Pakistan and Somalia; illicit weapons recovered in Mexico and the Philippines; and the impacts of improvised explosive devices on civilians. Chapters on the Second Review Conference of the UN Programme of Action and the industrial demilitarisation industry round out the 2013 volume

Complementing these chapters are illustrated testimonies of women with experience as soldiers, rebels, and security personnel. The 'weapons and markets' section assesses the potential impact of the Arms Trade Treaty, presents the 2014 Transparency Barometer and an update on the authorized small arms trade, and analyses recent ammunition depot explosions in the Republic of the Congo. In addition, it examines ammunition circulating in Africa and the Middle East, maps the sources of insurgent weapons in Sudan and South Sudan, and evaluates crime gun records in the United States. The Small Arms Survey is produced annually by a team of researchers based in Geneva, Switzerland, and a worldwide network of local researchers.
