El tablero de K'an Tok : una inscripción glífica maya del grupo XVI de Palenque, Chiapas by Guillermo Bernal Romero( Book )

4 editions published in 2009 in Spanish and held by 43 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1993 the rests of a fragmented and partially damaged tablet of hieroglyphs was recuperated in Temple XVI (Structure 16) of Palenque, an archaeological discovery known as the "Tablero de K'an Tok". This important discovery is a late Mayan inscription carved around the 8th century during the ruling of K'inich K'uk' B'ahlam III. Author Bernal reconstructed the monument and deciphered the inscription concluding that it represents a list of diverse members from the Palenque royal lineage who were ascended or "installed" as chief priests of the K'an Tok office by Palenque rulers in a desperate effort to maintain their power in what was a hopeless future. Bernal also discovered the existence of an unknown late Palenque ruler: U Pakal K'inich Janahb' Pakal (b. 742)
