2 editions published between 2015 and 2016 in English and held by 634 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Lingo takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of sixty European languages and dialects, sharing quirky moments from their histories and exploring their commonalities and differences ... Lingo takes us into the remote mountain villages of Switzerland, where Romansh is still the favored tongue; to formerly Soviet Belarus, a country whose language was Russified by the Bolsheviks; to Sweden, where up until the 1960s polite speaking conventions required that one never use the word 'you' in conversation"--Jacket flap
Lingo : a language spotters' guide to Europe by Gaston Dorren( Book )

5 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in English and held by 171 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Welcome to Europe as you've never known it before, seen through the peculiarities of its languages and dialects. Combining linguistics and cultural history, Gaston Dorren takes us on an intriguing tour of the continent, from Proto-Indo-European (the common ancestor of most European languages) to the rise and rise of English, via the complexities of Welsh plurals and Czech pronunciation. Along the way we learn why Esperanto will never catch on, how the language of William the Conqueror survives in the Channel Islands and why Finnish is the easiest European language. Surprising, witty and full of extraordinary facts, this book will change the way you think about the languages around you.--
Non-canonical gender systems( Book )

5 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 58 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Grammatical gender is a puzzling category: although it has been widely explored from a typological perspective, studies are constantly identifying exciting and unexpected patterns in gender systems, many of which cannot be easily classified or straightforwardly analysed. Some of these patterns stretch or even threaten to cross the largely unexplored outer boundaries of the category. In the canonical approach, morphosyntactic features like gender are established in terms of a canonical ideal - a clustering of properties that serves as a baseline to measure the actual examples observed. In this volume, international experts use this approach to analyse a range of gender systems that diverge from the canonical ideal, and to determine to what extent each component property of these systems can be considered canonical
Taaltoerisme : feiten en verhalen over 53 Europese talen by Gaston Dorren( Book )

4 editions published in 2012 in Dutch and held by 40 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lingo en språkreise gjennom Europa by Gaston Dorren( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in Norwegian and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

1 edition published in 2016 in Swedish and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
