Khatia Buniatishvili's playing has been described as having 'an aura of elegant solitude and even melancholy. It's a perfect characterization of the pianist with such a wide palette of expression. Khatia Buniatishvili commands a natural musicality. 'Force of nature', 'Spiritedness', or 'Infinite freedom' are frequently mentioned attributes on her interpretation. Buniatishvili's artistic approach to making music is undoubtedly associated with the Romantic tradition, always maintaining a fine balance between unhinged wildness and lyrical introspection. The repertoire comprises cheerful moments, melancholic passages and nocturne-like episodes: virtuously brought to life throughout a concert experience with a great quality of intimacy and generous ardour. Works by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Kancheli, Brahms, Ravel, Grieg, Händel, Liszt, Dvorák, Buniatishvili, Pärt, Ligeti

For the Verbier Festival's 18th edition, the rising piano star Khatia Buniatishvili gained the attention of the audience. The first concert she performed at the Festival was Rachmaninov's Piano concerto No. 3 at the Salle des Combins. A stunning performance for this young pianist! Some days later, in the Church of Verbier, she gave a recital including works by Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. And we remember that 2011 was the bicentenary of the Hungarian composer's birthday . Khatia Buniatishvili is only 24, but she already shows great skills. Her latest recording (Liszt) received a CHOC by Classica magazine. This film presents the best of Khatia Buniatishvili at Verbier Festival 2011

2011 celebrated Franz Liszt's 200th anniversary. Khatia Buniatishvili's Liszt was released in the same year and obtained public favor. A regular of the Verbier Festival, at the 2011 edition the young pianist Khatia Buniatishvili shined for her virtuosity, notably in the recital she gave in the church of Verbier, where she recreated the dreamlike atmospheres of Liszt and Chopin. By contrast, together with the Romantics, she chose to performed Stravinsky and Prokofiev: the modernity of the Sonata No. 7 by Prokofiev echoed the enthusiastic rhythm of Stravinsky's Petrouchka. Two demanding works that nevertheless didn't scare Khatia Buniatishvili who made Russian music her speciality

A muse and a master of music, Martha Argerich is a regular of the Verbier Festival. For the 2011 edition she performed among others with the legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis. She performed the Sonata No. 8 for violin and piano by Beethoven with Renaud Capuçon and the Fantasiestücke by Schumann with his brother Gautier. Two very contrasting works for this programme, that combined the rigorous Classicism of Beethoven's Sonata with Schumann's Romantic work. Memorable duos with the master of violin Ivry Gitlis followed. Khatia Buniatishvili, Yuja Wang and Martha Argerich played with him the Sicilienne by Von Paradis, Tchaikovsky'sMelody for violin and piano, then Schön Rosmarin and Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler. The peak of the concert was attained with Nelson Goerner and Martha Argerich performing La Valse by Ravel arranged for two pianos
