Grandma's bottle village : the art of Tressa Prisbrey( Visual )

1 edition published in 1982 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This documentary profiles Tressa Prisbrey, known as Grandma Prisbrey, and the folk art environment she single-handedly constructed on her property in Simi Valley, Calif. Bottle Village began in 1956 when Prisbrey built a glass bottle-and-mortar house to hold her collection of 17,000 pencils. At its completion in 1981 the village included 15 bottle houses, as well as shrines, wishing wells, and sidewalk mosaics, all made from found objects. With the 84-year-old Prisbrey as an energetic guide, the film lovingly documents her idiosyncratic creations and their contents, mostly scavenged from the county dump

A funny yet poignant portrait of Robert Crumb, the archetypal underground artist of the '60s. His work was always vivid, usually anarchic, sometimes violent and pornographic. Not only did he confront his generation's taboos, he positively embraced them in work such as "Fritz The Cat". This remarkable film examines the weird body of Crumb's work, and discovers some sources of his inspirations, including his upbringing within one of this century's most dysfunctional families. "Crumb" includes unexpurgated interviews, with the man himself, his brothers, his lovers, his friends and his critics
