Joseph Smith Black was born 14 July 1836 in Antrim, Lisburn, Ireland and died in 1910 in Utah. He was the son of William Black and Jane Johnston. He married Caroline Thompson, daughter of Peter Peterson Thompson and Dorthea Anderson, around 1860. She was born 24 October 1843 in Falster, Denmark and died 3 November 1919 in Deseret, Utah
