Sou Fujimoto by Naomi R Pollock( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 141 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The first comprehensive monograph on Japan's most creative, experimental and visionary architect, Sou Fujimoto. Occasionally an architect emerges whose vision is so fresh that it causes us to reconsider the very nature of architecture. Sou Fujimoto is one of those architects. Guided by instinct and keen observation, he casts convention aside. Instead he blurs boundaries and routinely rethinks basic building blocks. Both comfortably familiar and curiously enigmatic, Fujimoto's dynamic work grabs our attention then lingers on in our minds. Born and bred in Hokkaido, Fujimoto received his undergraduate degree in architecture from Tokyo University before embarking on an uncharted, solo exploration that probed the possibilities of architecture. Unfettered by the ideas and practices of others, Fujimoto's work has clarity of thought and purity of execution seldom seen. Fujimoto garnered significant international attention for his popular 2013 Serpentine Pavilion in London (Fujimoto was the youngest architect to receive the highly-regarded commission). In 2012 he was part of the Japanese team that won a Golden Lion award for Best National Participation at the Venice Architecture Biennale for their design of alternative housing concepts for the homes that were destroyed by the tsunami

Sou Fujimoto : primitive future by Sōsuke Fujimoto( Book )

15 editions published between 2008 and 2017 in 4 languages and held by 72 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sou Fujimoto's projects grow out of a unique blend of aspects of traditional Japanese culture and the ideas of contemporary architecture. The references to nature, which he incorporates in his designs as if it were one more building material, the fluidity of space expressed through a loose geometry which organises and defines things without making its presence felt, and the subtle gradation between interior and exterior are examples of that traditional influence. Fujimoto manipulates these features and transforms them into a fluid new architecture which seems effortless and entirely up-to-date
Koko ni kenchiku wa kanō ka = Architecture. possible here? "home-for-all" by Toyoo Itō( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in Japanese and held by 71 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Authored by Toyo Ito, Kumiko Inui, Sou Fujimoto, Akihisa Hirata, Naoya Hatakeyama, and others, this book gives a comprehensive look at the process of catastrophe and response which followed the Great East Japan Earthquake, as presented in the Japan Pavilion Exhibition at the 13th Biennale of Architecture in Venice. By posing this question, an assertion that architecture can only recover its essential character under such conditions is made, enabling a re-examination of its essential meaning. Through texts, photographs, sketches and models, the book is a both a timeline of events and a reaffirmation of the energy, creativity and dedication of its participants

Sou Fujimoto - Futurospektive Architektur : [erscheint anlässlich der Ausstellung "Sou Fujimoto. Futurospektive Architektur", Kunsthalle Bielefeld, 3. Juni - 2. September 2012]( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in German and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sou Fujimoto elucidates his idea of architecture with the help of more than 120 models of realized structures, conceptional tests or designs currently in progress. He has furnished each of the models, photographed himself, with a "statement" which poetically and succinctly substantiate his musings on the future of architecture. Fujimoto sees "architecture as a forest" as the architecture of the future. The models range from very small buildings to huge constructions several hundred metres high or even whole city blocks. In the email correspondence in the appendix, conducted with the architect, the residents of his detached houses House Na and House N discuss how they feel living in his buildings and the functionality of the architecture. The book, designed by Thomas Mayfried, is not an exhibition catalogue, but rather an extremely interesting manifesto of a young architect, whose visions have already received much international attention. 0Exhibition: Kunsthalle Bielefeld, Germany (2012)
Sou Fujimoto : Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013 by Sōsuke Fujimoto( Book )

5 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013 is designed by multi award-winning Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto (born 1971)--the thirteenth and, at 41, youngest architect to accept the invitation to design a temporary structure for the Serpentine Gallery. The most ambitious architectural program of its kind worldwide, the Serpentine's past pavilions have included designs by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei (2012), Frank Gehry (2008), the late Oscar Niemeyer (2003) and Zaha Hadid. Inspired by organic structures, such as the forest, the nest and the cave, Fujimoto's signature buildings inhabit a space between nature and artificiality. Fujimoto's pavilion is a delicate, latticed structure of steel poles, lightweight and semi-transparent in appearance, that allows it to blend, cloud-like, into the landscape and against the classical backdrop of the Gallery's colonnaded East wing. It is designed as a flexible, multi-purpose social space. This volume documents the project

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"'A Japanese Constellation' showcases a group of contemporary architects who work in Japan but whose influence extends throughout the world. This book, published in conjunction with the first exhibition to feature three generations of practitioners orbiting Pritzker Architecture Prize laureates Toyo Ito and SANAA, moves beyond the limited framework of the architectural "star system" to illuminate how shared themes may spawn cross-generational lines of descent and influence. Highlighting forty-four designs realized since the year 2001, the volume reveals how structural invention, ceaseless experimentation, nonhierarchical thinking, and novel uses of transparency and lightness inform and strengthen the identity of linked local practices, even as their impact is global. With 336 illustrations as well as essays by Perdo Gadanho, Terunobu Fujimori, Taro Igarashi, and Julian Worrall."--Jaquette

Attempting to form an overview of the experimentation that has gone into his efforts over the past two decades, Sou Fujimoto compiles a multifarious and richly illustrated collection of works – concepts, new ideas, and unrealised projects – that is remarkable both for its sprawling diversity and for its consistency in the pursuit of an ideal. As Fujimoto writes in his introduction, “Beneath even the boldest, most daring proposals lie many years of patient trial and error.” Each project description contains index numbers of other projects that bear a resemblance to it, enabling readers to trace an interconnected web of interrelated concepts through his entire body of work

It comprises an interview with the architect by Noriko Takiguchi in which subjects range from specific projects, dealing with clients, and how current trends in architecture relate to his work, to the pros and cons of working alone versus being open to ideas from others and collaboration.
