Introduction to quantum optics : from the semi-classical approach to quantized light by Gilbert Grynberg( )

21 editions published between 2010 and 2012 in English and held by 1,281 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Covering a number of important subjects in quantum optics, this textbook is an excellent introduction for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, familiarizing readers with the basic concepts and formalism as well as the most recent advances. The first part of the textbook covers the semi-classical approach where matter is quantized, but light is not. It describes significant phenomena in quantum optics, including the principles of lasers. The second part is devoted to the full quantum description of light and its interaction with matter, covering topics such as spontaneous emission, and classical and non-classical states of light. An overview of photon entanglement and applications to quantum information is also given. In the third part, non-linear optics and laser cooling of atoms are presented, where using both approaches allows for a comprehensive description. Each chapter describes basic concepts in detail, and more specific concepts and phenomena are presented in 'complements' -- Back cover

The Fullerenes by H. W Kroto( Book )

1 edition published in 1997 in French and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In 1985, Buckminsterfullerene (fullerene-60) C[subscript 60] was discovered serendipitously during graphite laser vaporization experiments designed to simulate the chemistry in a red giant carbon star. The molecule was isolated for the first time in macroscopic amounts in 1990, a breakthrough which triggered an explosion of research into its chemical and physical properties. The fullerenes hold great potential for material science applications, such as semiconductors and microscopic engineering, and as new compounds for pharmaceuticals, polymers and the chemical industry. Buckminsterfullerene possesses a beauty and elegance that has excited the imaginations of laymen and scientists alike. It seems almost impossible to comprehend how the existence of the third well-characterized allotrope of carbon could have evaded discovery until virtually the end of the twentieth century. In October 1992 a Discussion Meeting of the Royal Society entitled 'A Post-Buckminsterfullerene View of the Chemistry, Physics and Astrophysics of Carbon' organized by H.W. Kroto, A.L. MacKay, G. Turner and D.R.M. Walton, was held to celebrate this exciting advance. The scientists who played key roles in the discovery and who are currently uncovering fascinating problems and the implications of this elegant molecule, presented the papers published in this book."--Jacket

UTILISATION DES FAISCEAUX CORRELES AU NIVEAU QUANTIQUE PRODUITS PAR UN OSCILLATEUR PARAMETRIQUE OPTIQUE EN SPECTROSCOPIE DE GRANDE SENSIBILITE by CATHERINE SCHWOB( Book )

2 editions published in 1997 in French and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

LA SENSIBILITE DES EXPERIENCES DE SPECTROSCOPIE AVEC DES SOURCES DE LUMIERE CLASSIQUES EST LIMITEE, AU MIEUX, PAR LE BRUIT DE PHOTONS DES FAISCEAUX. L'OSCILLATEUR PARAMETRIQUE OPTIQUE (OPO) PRODUIT DES FAISCEAUX DONT LES FLUCTUATIONS SONT CORRELEES AU NIVEAU QUANTIQUE. LEUR UTILISATION EN SPECTROSCOPIE PEUT DONC PERMETTRE DE REDUIRE LE BRUIT DE FOND DE LA MESURE EN DESSOUS DE LA LIMITE QUANTIQUE STANDARD. LA PARTIE EXPERIMENTALE DE CETTE THESE CONSISTE A OBSERVER LE SIGNAL D'ABSORPTION DE LA TRANSITION 4S-5S DU POTASSIUM SUR L'UN DES FAISCEAUX JUMEAUX. LA MESURE EST EFFECTUEE SUR LA DIFFERENCE ENTRE L'INTENSITE DU FAISCEAU SIGNAL ET CELLE DU FAISCEAU COMPLEMENTAIRE EN BALAYANT LA FREQUENCE DU LASER A SEMI-CONDUCTEUR QUI FOURNIT LE SECOND PHOTON DE LA TRANSITION. POUR UN FAISCEAU SIGNAL DE 6 MW PRODUIT PAR UN OPO CONTINU ET UN FAISCEAU DU LASER A SEMI CONDUCTEUR DE 20 MW, NOUS AVONS OBSERVE UNE ABSORPTION RELATIVE DE 2.5 10#-#7 SUR UNE BANDE PASSANTE DE 3 HZ. CE TRES FAIBLE SIGNAL A ETE DETECTE AVEC UN BRUIT DE FOND REDUIT DE 35% PAR RAPPORT A LA LIMITE QUANTIQUE STANDARD. SUR LE PLAN THEORIQUE, NOUS AVONS APPROFONDI LE MODELE DECRIVANT LES CHAMPS PRODUITS PAR GENERATION PARAMETRIQUE. JUSQU'A PRESENT, LES THEORIES SUR LE FONCTIONNEMENT DE CES SOURCES DE LUMIERE NON CLASSIQUE ETAIENT BASEES SUR UN MODELE EN ONDE PLANE. NOUS AVONS AFFINE CE MODELE EN PRENANT EN COMPTE LA STRUCTURE GAUSSIENNE DE LA LUMIERE. DANS UN PREMIER TEMPS, NOUS AVONS ANALYSE LE FONCTIONNEMENT MULTIMODE TRANSVERSE DE L'OPO. PUIS, DU POINT DE VUE DE LA REDUCTION DES FLUCTUATIONS QUANTIQUES DES CHAMPS, NOUS AVONS ETUDIE LES MODIFICATIONS DES PREDICTIONS DU MODELE EN ONDE PLANE, DUES AUX EFFETS TRANSVERSES
