The 23rd film in theGodzilla series, this film ignores all preceding films except the original film produced in 1954. Godzilla runs amok in Hokkaidō, causiing great panic. Shinoda, the representative of a civilian organization called Godzilla Prediction Network (GPN) witnesses the mayhem caused by Godzilla. GPN traces Godzilla's course and predicts the creature is heading toward Tōkaimura, which has nuclear plants. Katagiri, the head of the Crisis Control Intelligence (CCI), orders the nuclear plants to cease operation and deploys the Self Defense Forces (SDF) to confront Godzilla. As predicted, Godzilla appears in Tōkaimura, and the SDF attacks the monster. Shortly before this fight, a CCI submarine discovers a giant rock deep in the Japan Trench. It is a sixty million year old UFO and, activated by the light of the submarine, it surfaces and flies off to Tōkaimura where Godzilla and the SDF are stil doing battle
