"Today there is general recognition that Australia produces higher quality, most efficiently grown cotton in the world. This has not come about overnight and is the culmination of years of innovative science applied to production systems, fibre processing and plant breeding. Recently the introduction of GM technology as well as self imposed environmental and pest management practices have seen the industry continue to evolve. The moder cotton industry in Australia took off in the early 1960s and has faced many obstacles and challenges. Though poor public perception of chemical and water use, outbreaks of pest, floods and droughts, it has prospered due to one very important factor: the unprecedented collaboration between research, science and application, to create one of the most forward-thinking and prosperous industries in Australia. In the spirit of this collaboration they come together now to speak candidly, in their own words, about the history of cotton in Australian and about the promising future ahead."--Back cover
