Land and disaster management strategies in Asia by Huong Ha( )

10 editions published between 2014 and 2016 in English and held by 338 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book focuses on land and disaster governance in Asian countries. The Asian region has become increasingly vulnerable to natural disasters, including floods, cyclones, storms, earthquakes, drought, typhoons and tsunamis. Further, as a result of unsustainable changes being made in patterns of land use, catchment and coastal zones, increasing population density, migration patterns, and the spread of consumer culture across countries, the impact of natural disasters has increased manifold. The book addresses two major concerns in this field. Firstly, it discusses topics intended to raise awareness among all stakeholders of the critical aspects of disaster management in the context of Asia. Secondly, it calls upon policymakers, researchers, academics, practitioners, private enterprises and civil society organizations, as well as all those who have been, are and will be affected by natural disasters to search for innovative and novel approaches to reducing risk and managing disasters
Strategic disaster risk management in Asia( )

8 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 298 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book presents strategies for managing disasters and reducing risks in Asian countries. Given the dynamic changes in the natural environment as well as the patterns of land use and management, the growing populations of the developing nations in Asia, migration patterns, and other social-cultural aspects, the impacts of disasters have increased manifold in Asian countries. Against this backdrop, the book examines disaster management issues such as disaster preparedness, post-disaster reconstruction, peace, development and corruption. The views of different groups of stakeholders are incorporated in the discussion to ensure a comprehensive analysis of and findings on the governance process, as well as best practices in pre- and post-disaster management. The book also includes chapters focusing on aspects often overlooked in the context of disaster management, such as the need to invest in public education to improve public awareness, and approaches to supporting the disabled, the vulnerable and the elderly from disaster risks. In closing, the book presents research on disaster management methods employed by different countries in the Asian region

Climate change management : special topics in the context of Asia by Huong Ha( )

6 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 95 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book includes seven chapters focusing on special issues of climate change management in Asia. The first chapter discusses the challenges with regard to climate change governance. The second chapter examines the impact of climate change on agriculture and food security in Nepal from socio-economic perspectives. The findings reveal that climate change entails much adverse effect, for example, contributing to loss of species and local landraces, reducing agricultural productivity and yield, and contributing to the emerged labor crisis in the rural areas. The third chapter is a rare work which explores a new dimension of climate change management, that is, environmental knowledge management. The fourth chapter also touches on a special topic regarding climate change, that is, legal issues in the maritime sector. This chapter reviews the climate change challenges faced by the maritime industry, and the current legal framework governing the maritime sector in South Asia with regard to climate change. The fifth chapter examines how the legal industry in Malaysia responds to climate change to contribute to resolving such global issues, and to the development of the country's economic growth. The sixth chapter, about the agriculture sector in Japan, investigates whether the adaptive method of introducing high-temperature tolerant varieties and the mitigation strategy of reducing chemical inputs affect the product price of rice in Japan. Finally, the last chapter proposes that robust strategies and policies from the relevant authorities are required to provide directions to stakeholders so that they can effectively and efficiently respond to climate change challenges

DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT IN AGRICULTURE : case studies in south asian countries by Huong Ha( )

3 editions published in 2019 in English and held by 38 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The challenges related to disaster risk management (DRM) in the agricultural sector are now widely linked to sustainable environment. The fact remains that almost every day a disaster strikes in some part of the world. The regular occurrence of natural and man-made disasters has forced the worldwide communities to look for novel solutions to prevent and mitigate such disasters. This volume brings together probing studies to disseminate the work of outstanding scholars and practitioners, especially in South Asian countries. Thus, it highlights the need to amalgamate and coordinate the resources and agencies involved in DRM in agriculture to ensure the quality of life to the victims after disasters. The authors incorporate specific themes correlated with DRM in South Asia. They intend to assess: (i) the consequences of distinct disaster risks in agriculture, (ii) the ways in which diverse disaster risk problems are handled in distinct settings, and (iii) the different methodologies embraced by different sectors to prepare for disaster risk
Change management for sustainability by Huong Ha( Book )

5 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 36 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book focuses on how organizations can manage change in order to transform and develop in a sustainable manner. Change management is challenging, multi-faceted and complex, and must be addressed by multi-stakeholders in an organization. It requires strategic and tactical action and resources, both tangible and intangible, to implement changes and to deal with resistance to change. Given the dynamic development of internal (resources, capabilities, competitiveness, etc.) and external (political, economic, socio-cultural, technological and environmental) environment influences, firms are required to respond to these changes. Accordingly, change management is imperative for organizational development and success. Nevertheless, resources are limited, whereas wants are unlimited. Thus, changes for sustainability would be able to help firms build their capabilities and core competencies which, in turn, help them retain their competitive advantages for a reasonable period of time. As change management is a complex and challenging task, it is impossible to adopt any single method or framework to address the issues associated with change in organizations. Thus, Kotter's change framework, policy analysis and multi-stakeholder models in management and governance for sustainability will be adopted to develop concepts, arguments, discussion, etc

Public participation and environmental governance in Singapore( )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Singapore is as a very small city-state with limited human and natural resources. It has successfully moved from a developing to a newly developed country, and has maintained its economic viability during many global economic crises. Effective governance and management of resources has been a key factor in ensuring national survival. However, its formal democratic processes have been considered limited, especially in terms of public participation. Given that effective governance often presupposes some degree of public participation this paper explores the role of public participation in the management of the environment in Singapore. It aims to identify (i) the availability of information about environmental laws and regulations, environmental issues, environmental conditions and other relevant information regarding environmental management, (ii) opportunities for citizens to provide input and comments about environmental issues and (iii) opportunities for citizens to exchange their ideas with others
Service quality and student/customer satisfaction in the private tertiary education sector in Singapore( )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract : Purpose: This paper focuses on students' perceptions of the quality of non-academic services received in higher education. While the important role played by expectations and perceptions in students' evaluations of such services has been discussed in much of the service quality literature, there is insufficient work in the private tertiary educational sector (PTES). Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between service quality, student satisfaction, and behavioural intentions in the PTES, using Singapore as a case study. Design/methodology/approach: This study adopted quantitative research to address the research questions. Primary data were collected from 324 valid responses from a survey conducted in two private tertiary educational institutes (PTEIs) in Singapore. Findings: The results suggested that perceived service quality is positively correlated to satisfaction; perceived service quality and satisfaction are positively correlated to favourable behavioural intentions; and the relationships among perceived service quality and loyalty and paying more for a service are mediated by satisfaction. Originality/value: This study is significant as the results provide better insights for Singaporean administrators in PTEIs, which is an under-researched area. Generally, the results will have far-reaching implications for all stakeholders in the delivery and consumption of education services in PTEIs, within and beyond Singapore
