FABRICATE : negotiating design & making by Fabio Gramazio( )

6 editions published between 2014 and 2017 in English and held by 595 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Following the inaugural FABRICATE conference 2011 in London, the most important forum for international discussion on digital fabrication in architecture has resumed by Fabio Gramazio and Matthias Kohler at ETH Zurich. In contrast to the projects presented in 2011 at the Bartlett School of Architecture, which were balanced between practice and research, the questions about design and materialisation in architecture, construction, engineering, manufacturing, material and software design currently seem to be driven more by research institutions and young start-up entrepreneurs than by architectural practice. While digital fabrication technologies are becoming common practice in architecture for prototyping as well as in the realisation of buildings, contemporary research does not just investigate their further development, but presents ways to integrate them already in an early design phase to definitelyovercome the still prevalent separation of design and making
Holkham by Leopold Schmidt( Book )

1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 134 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Built between 1734 and 1765, Holkham Hall--the Earl of Leicester's 25,000-acre estate in Norfolk--is a tribute to a time gone by. This great house full of exquisite works of art, one of England's primary tourist destinations, continues to be a thriving, self-sufficient community, providing visitors with a unique perspective on rural life as it was lived during the estate's conception. This colourful publication of the house and park explores for the first time the landscape and the architectural history of Holkham Hall, introducing the client for whom the mansion was conceived and built, detailing its construction process and describing the magnificent historic interiors."--Jacket
Das Marburger Bausystem by Silke Langenberg( Book )

6 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in German and held by 86 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Marburg Building System has been one of the earliest, and is probably one of the internationally best known German building systems. Originally developed by Helmut Spieker for a diploma thesis on university construction at the University of Kiel, and modified for the expansion of the University of Karlsruhe, the construction system was for the first time fully realized in 1961/1962 on the Marburg Lahn Hills. It marks the beginning of a construction boom doubling the building stock of German universities. The aim was to create an open, fully flexible construction system that would satisfy the needs of the end users as well as offer the possibility for later modification or extension. The Marburg Building System requires a fully standardized building method and according to its conception has to be regarded as a neutral system, completely independent of its location or use, as multiple schools, a highway gas station and service area near Fulda or the DFB's administrative building in Frankfurt prove. The system is flexible, adaptable and extendable, all building blocks are standardized, pre-fabricated, easy to mount and demount. This even facilitates larger-scale repair and renovation works. This publication aims at bringing the building system back to the attention of experts and fans of good architecture. The topic is all the more up-to-date as the University of Marburg was recently declared a building of historic interest and thus protected by built heritage conservation"--Provided by publisher

Reparatur, "Anstiftung zum Denken und Machen" = Repair, "encouragement to think and make"( Book )

2 editions published in 2018 in German and held by 34 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Who does not know this? Things, bought just now, break down after a short time. Reparability is not considered, spare parts are not available. What to do? Repaircafés try to help, but actually there is a need to rethink the construction and production of things. In order to counteract this development and to sensitise for a more sustainable use of resources, a repaircourse has been initiated at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich. Concepts for the repair of various objects have been developed and also conducted - by hand as well as by the help of digital fabrication tools. Some projects have already been exhibited and presented to the maker-scene at Make Munich, the biggest DIY-festival of southern Germany. This publication presents the whole spectrum for the first time. It does not just want to encourage for thinking but also for making - because exchange may not replace the concept of repair, neither in product design nor in the bigger scale of architecture

Reparatur : Anstiftung zum Denken und Machen = Repair : encouragement to Think and Make( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 22 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Wer kennt das nicht? Dinge, die man sich eben erst gekauft hat, gehen bereits nach kurzer Zeit kaputt. Die Reparatur ist nicht vorgesehen, Ersatzteile sind nicht erhältlich. Was tun?
