MDA is a medical-legal organisation which exists to defend doctors and where necessary compensate patients. The MDA team's role is to unravel the facts in situations where intentions have been tangled and the truth is debatable. The patient's right to know and understand all risks associated with any surgery, medically and legally, is emphasised in the series. Footage of the MDA team's preoccupation with several cases, which turned up in quick succession; and how every case was handled. An actress had broken her toe during a film shoot, and the orthopaedic surgeon in his report to the producer recommended that she stay off her foot for three weeks. Through solicitor Gabrielle Bromley, the film company is reclaiming the cost of film shooting delay from Dr. Miller, for failing to recommend a treatment which would not have delayed filming. Bromley next claimed compensation for damages and loss of earnings, on behalf of Mrs. Kavanagh. She alleged that negligent epidural block by Dr. Edward Walsh had damaged the patient's nerves, incapacitating her mobility. Dr. Sadaka was implicated in the anti-depressant case, in which her patient killed himself with an overdose of the drug prescribed by her. Then, there was allegation against Dr. Rupert Carr for incompetence resulting in unacceptably high infant mortality rate, by one of their own, Dr. A. Morello. Meanwhile, Dr. Morello himself was implicated in a costly manslaughter case, a carry-over from his Albury days; and in trouble with the MDA board over his fudged report. As for Dr. Carr's case, with such unacceptable high infant mortality statistics stacked up against him, the MDA team had to advise him on the alternative course of retirement, with his reputation intact
