In the company of black by Cecil McDonald( Book )

2 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the Company of Black is a photography publication that will bring together images of Black people who represent everyday folks. For the past seven years, I have developed a body of work that focuses on portraits of extraordinarily, ordinary people, such as educators, artists, administrators, business owners, teachers, and students. When it comes to Black people, America is fascinated with extreme poles: either showing victims of violence, pain, and poverty (Black misery) or famous athletes and entertainers, and icons of popular culture (Black exceptionalism). This false dichotomy denies Black people the individuality and full spectrum of humanity that is so readily offered to the white population in this country. The photographs that I've been making ask the question: where are the people who make up the space in between? Here they are, they are important, they must be seen! --

Art AIDS America Chicago by Alphawood Foundation( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Art AIDS America Chicago attempts to confront racial and gender bias by foregrounding female artists and artists of color, including Howardena Pindell, Daniel Sotomayor, William Downs, Ronald Lockett, Kia Labeija, and Willie Cole. In the new book, works by these artists and many others are illustrated in full color, as are images of performances and programs that took place during the Chicago exhibition. This book also inserts Chicago artists and activist activities into the wider history of AIDS activism and includes a comprehensive biographical essay on Chicago artist Roger Brown. Through this multifaceted and lively approach, Art AIDS America Chicago further explores the intersection of art and AIDS activism"--Amazon.com
