Papers of the Townsend family of Medfield, Mass. The majority of the papers consists of letters among family members, including Jonathan, Gregory, and Jonathan's children, Sara (1754-1836) and Horatio Townsend. There are long series of personal correspondence between Sara and Mary (Greene) Hubbard, 1781-1807; among Horatio's children, Mary, Lucretia, Horatio, and Sarah; and between Sarah and various friends, 1802-43. The collection also includes a few deeds, indentures, and other legal documents and some genealogical information on the Greene and Townsend families. Other allied families represented in the collection are Allen, Greene (including letters from Nathaniel Greene to his daughter Anstis Greene Townsend), and Derby. Financial, legal and estate papers of the Allen family of Windham, Connecticut. At least two generations of Amos Allen's are included in the collection. In 1744, Amos paid for his wife's care while she was a minor living with another family. In 1767, Amos leased his farm to his son Amos. An undated inventory and an undated distribution list are also found in this folder. Widow Jerusha Allen is represented by a document in which her children's portions of their father's estate was calculated, a bill, and several receipts. Oliver Allen's estate inventory is also part of the collection. Additional materials include plot plans, 1812, legal agreements, accounts, two unidentified inventories, a letter to "sister" and a acrostic, 1868
