By the late teens Hollywood was the dominant economic and cultural force in the international film industry. The four features in this package at most have a touch of local colour (most notably George Wallace's comic persona in His Royal Highness) but basically they are not marked by Australian themes and settings. The Cheaters (1929) is a sophisticated society melodrama; Painted Daughters (1925) is a romantic melodrama in a vaudeville setting; Silks and Saddles (1921) is a romantic melodrama set in the world of horse-racing; His Royal Highness (1932) is a comic fantasy or burlesque operetta
Silks and Saddles (Musical Soundtrack) by Prod Co: Commonwealth Pictures( Visual )

1 edition published in 1921 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A racecourse melodrama with a strong willed heroine, Bobbie Morton, who in the tradition of "The Girl of the Bush" and "The Squatter's Daughter" is horsewoman, larrikan two-up player and dainty romantic interest. With a plot of race-rigging at its centre, the film introduced some delightful moments with a portly besotted flying squatter who vies for Bobbie's hand. Shot in and around Sydney, especially at Randwick racetrack and on the MacArthur-Onslow stud at Camden, the film credited racing champion of the day 'Kennaquhair' as 'Alert', the horse Bobbie rides in the big race
