Mistrust : an ethnographic theory by Matthew Carey( )

19 editions published between 2017 and 2018 in English and Undetermined and held by 449 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Trust occupies a unique place in contemporary discourse. Seen as both necessary and virtuous, it is variously depicted as enhancing the social fabric, lowering crime rates, increasing happiness, and generating prosperity. It allows for complex political systems, permits human communication, underpins financial instruments and economic institutions, and generally holds society together. Against these overwhelmingly laudable qualities, mistrust often goes unnoticed as a positive social phenomenon, treated as little more than a corrosive absence, a mere negative of trust itself. With this book, Matthew Carey proposes an ethnographic and conceptual exploration of mistrust that raises it up as legitimate stance in its own right. While mistrust can quickly ruin relationships and even dissolve extensive social ties, Carey shows that it might have other values. Drawing on fieldwork in Morocco's High Atlas Mountains as well as comparative material from regions stretching from Eastern Europe to Melanesia, he examines the impact of mistrust on practices of conversation and communication, friendship and society, and politics and cooperation. In doing so, he demonstrates that trust is not the only basis for organizing human society and cooperating with others. The result is a provocative but enlightening work that makes us rethink social issues such as suspicion, doubt, and uncertainty."--Back cover

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Australian Maritime Jurisdiction of approximately 7,000,000 km2 has, at most, 25% of its seabed surveyed at high resolution. Since September 2001, under Commonwealth Policy on Spatial Data Access and Pricing, Intergovernmental Committee on Spatial Data Access and Pricing, the co-custodian of the bathymetry data collected within the Australian Marine Jurisdiction has been assigned to Geoscience Australia (GA). GA thus hosts various formats of raw as well as processed bathymetry datasets from multiple sensors, including multibeam sonar systems ... As of January 2013, the multibeam sonar bathymetric coverage held by GA was acquired by 48 vessels, 26 different multibeam sonar systems in 9 different frequencies between 12 and 455 kHz. ... The objective of this document is thus to provide standards and guidance to GA personnel and contractors who conduct multibeam data acquisition and processing during marine surveys to maximise consistency and efficiency. This document provides the most critical steps to multibeam acquisition and a mandatory checklist and deliverables. Specific details and tips for processing using Caris HIPS & SIPS software and Kongsberg EM series data are also provided in the appendix:. --Online abstract

Modeling site suitability of living shorelines in the Albemarle-Pamlico estuarine system by Matthew Carey( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Shoreline erosion and associated land loss are major concerns for coastal land owners and resource managers. Traditional methods of shoreline stabilization using permanent, hard structures can have adverse environmental impacts. Living shorelines offer an alternative to these traditional methods and sometimes provide additional benefits to the surrounding environment. This study examines the suitability for living shorelines in the Albemarle-Pamlico Estuarine System (APES) by creating and testing spatial modeling for living shorelines using suitability indices. The results of this modeling show that the majority of the shoreline in the APES is suitable for living shorelines
