Brian Jungen by Daina Augaitis( Book )

9 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 274 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The innovative sculptural art of Brian Jungen, one of Canada's most celebrated young artists, whose sculptures and installations have captivated audiences from Vienna to New York to Gwangju. Winner of the inaugural Sobey Art Award in 2002, Canada's largest prize given to an artist under the age of forty, Brian Jungen has been acclaimed for producing evocative work that transforms ubiquitous consumer items [i.e. running shoes, cafeteria food trays] into inventive sculptural forms, often linking his First Nations heritage to issues of cultural identity and the global economy. This visually stunning book is the first to chronicle the oeuvre of one of Canada's most compelling young artists, and includes essays from five internationally respected curators plus an interview with the artist himself. Accompanying the texts are spectacular reproductions of Jungen's most acclaimed works, including many new works created in 2004 and 2005. Brian Jungen is an authoritative volume on one of Canada's most fascinating new artists."--Pub. description

Claude Tousignant by Paulette Gagnon( Book )

4 editions published in 2009 in English and French and held by 127 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Retrospsepctive on the life's work of an artist considered an abstractionist visionary of the first order. The work of Claude Tousignant, from the 1950s to today, encompasses the full range of modernist expression. With his geometric shapes and solid colors coupled with his refusal to incorporate human or identifiable shapes, Tousignant pushed the boundaries to simplify the expression itself in the act of painting, incorporating huge circles, square angles and vivid colors in his pieces. Through a discussion of the exceptional qualities of his profoundly structured oeuvre, this publication outlines the artist's painstaking quest for the essence of art, not only with painting but also with watercolour, gouache and sculpture, and always with a rigour and an unwavering commitment to an ideal."--BOOK JACKET

Wangechi Mutu : du 2 Février au 22 Avril 2012 by Wangechi Mutu( Book )

2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 91 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since her appearance in the late 1990s, Wangechi Mutu's collage-drawings depicting black women, tampered with and prey to strange bodily mutations, have generated much debate and interest on the international art scene. The broad range of raw materials she uses - magazines on fashion and current events, geography and ethnography, motorcycles and pornography - allows her to tackle the stereotypes of media representation, particularly of women, head on. While presenting an overview of new and recent work, this publication is centered on the installation Moth Girls, 2010, recently acquired by the Musée. In the recurrence of a half-human, half-animal, female figure, the product of an extreme hybridization, the work reintroduces the notion of taxonomy, along with the volatile notion of classification and hierarchization of species and, by extension, peoples and races
