Correspondence, military personnel records, publications, memorabilia, and maps pertaining to Lale's military and civilian careers. Personal correspondence (1936-1945) to his wife, Georgiana, illustrates his early military years and provides an account of a young Army officer's experiences in Europe during World War II. Included in the series are photocopies of a travel journal Lale kept during his 1992 return to the European battlefields and a 1993 synopsis of his wartime letters. Personnel records (bulk 1938-1944) reflect assignments, training, promotions, and reserve duty. Publications (1937-1991) include items authored or edited by Max Lale for the U.S. Army Longhorn Ammunition Plant in Marshall, Texas, and information packets (1988-1991) from the On-Site Inspection Agency pertaining to the elimination of Pershing missiles at the plant; one packet contains photographs taken by Lale and wife, Cissy Stewart Lale. Other publications include military unit histories, armed services pamphlets, and university and military yearbooks. Memorabilia consists of a scrapbook (ca. 1938-1945) compiled by Georgiana Lale chronicling Max Lale's personal and military life, and a folder of photographs and mementos. In addition to photographs, newspaper clippings, and magazine articles, the scrapbook contains several letters not included in Series I. Seven British War Office maps depict Germany, Belgium, and Northeast France (1943-1944); one commercial map (1945?) shows European territory occupied by Germany
