Handbook of medical informatics by
Jan H. van Bemmel(
Book
)
19 editions published between 1997 and 2000 in English and held by 255 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The purpose of the Handbook is to provide a systematic overview of medical informatics for medical students and nursing students, for physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals, and for students in other areas, such as informatics and computer science. The handbook has been organized systematically. The 37 chapters are grouped into three main clusters that are subdivided into nine parts: the first cluster deals with data: 1) The transformation from data into information. 2) The processing and storage of data in computers. 3) The acquisition of data from patients. The second cluster describes the different types of systems in medicine and health care: 4) Patient-centered information systems. 5) Systems for knowledge and decision support. 6) Systems that are used to support institutions such as hospitals. The third cluster pertains to methodological aspects of medical informatics and is intended to be used for more advanced or specialized education. The third cluster contains: 7) The methodology for information processing. 8) The methodology for information systems. 9) Medical informatics as aprofession and academic discipline

Intelligent information processing : IFIP 17th World Computer Congress-TC12 stream on intelligent information processing,
August 25-30, 2002, Montreál, Québec, Canada by
Mark A Musen(
)
10 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 173 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Intelligent information processing has become one of the key issues on our way to a knowledge society. Recent research has led to exciting advances in technologies that will shape our future. Knowledge-based systems have matured to provide services in a well-founded ontological framework, and intelligent knowledge management can be supported by tools that are ready for practical applications. Intelligent Information Processing presents new research with special emphasis on knowledge-based system architecture and intelligent information management. The following topics are addressed: -Agent-based Computing; -Semantic Web and Learning; -Ontology Management; -Semantic Web Architecture; -Knowledge-engineering Frameworks; -Knowledge-system Structure; -Data Mining; -Methods and Tools for Identifying Communities of Practice; and -Implementing Problem Solvers. This volume comprises the proceedings of the Conference on Intelligent Information Processing (IIP 2002) held in conjunction with the 17th World Computer Congress, which was sponsored by the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) and which convened in Montréal, Québec, Canada, in August 2002. The conference represented a major activity of IFIP Technical Committee 12 (Artificial Intelligence), Working Group 12.5, which is dedicated to 'knowledge-oriented development of applications'. This Working Group brings together an international community of scientists concerned with the use of knowledge-based techniques in the engineering of real-world software systems"--Publisher description

Richard Benjamins(
Book
)
11 editions published in 2005 in English and Undetermined and held by 90 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A little over a decade has passed since the release of the ?rst Netscape browser. In 1995,the World Wide Web was viewedlargelyas an academiccuriosity.Now, of course, the Web is an integral part of the fabric of modern society. It is impossible to imagine science, education, commerce, or government functioning without the Web. We take the Web for granted, and often assume that Internet connectivity is guaranteed to all of us as a birthright. Although the Web indeed has become "world wide" and has lost a bit of its original aura as a consequence of its ubiquity, a burgeoning community of researchers and practitioners continues to work toward the next generation of the Web--a Web where information will be stored in a machine-processable form and where intelligent computer-based agents will access and automatically combine myriad services on the Internet of the kind that are now available only to people interacting directly with their Web browsers

Use of KADS to create a conceptual model of the ONCOCIN task by
Marc Linster(
Book
)
2 editions published between 1991 and 1992 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In this paper, we offer a detailed description of the elements and layers of the K-ONCOCIN conceptual model. We also describe briefly a design model that implements K-ONCOCIN as a functional expert system. The K-ONCOCIN model provides a data point for understanding the strengths and limitations of the KADS method when applied to a complex domain task."
