Reoviruses : entry, assembly, and morphogenesis by Polly Roy( )

7 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 554 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Reoviridae family members are large, complex viruses that infect human, animals, plants and insects. They are unique in that they lack lipid envelopes and package their genomes of discrete double-stranded segments of RNA within multi-layered capsids. Lack of a lipid envelope has allowed three-dimensional structures of these large complex viruses to be obtained. The capsids of these viruses undergo cell entry, uncoating, the enzymatic functions necessary for transcription of the genome, and are later involved in egress from host cells. Recent years have seen an increase in our knowledge of the structure of these viruses coupled with substantial progress in unravelling the molecular details of these processes. Intriguingly, despite their diversity in hosts, structures and modes of transmission, striking parallels have emerged in the molecular interactions necessary for the essential processes of virus entry, assembly and release. This book reviews our current understanding of Reoviridae entry, disassembly/assembly and egress in addition to updating high resolution structures of viral proteins and capsids from three different genera of the family
Bluetongue viruses by P Roy( Book )

14 editions published between 1990 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 284 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the first comprehensive book on the bluetongue virus; it includes the molecular structure of the viral components, replication cycles and morphogenesis as well as the biology, evolution, and relationships with its vertebrate and invertebrate hosts. The studies involving immuno-electron microscopy present new techniques and provide excellent examples how to apply these technologies in studying cellular and microbial biology
Virus structure and assembly( )

10 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 219 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Written by experts in their field, Virus Structure and Assembly summarizes our current state of knowledge in the field of virus structure and assembly, comparing and contrasting the mechanisms adopted by viruses with a wide diversity of genome and host. It will serve as an invaluable reference for researchers in virology, microbiology, epidemiology, molecular biology, and public health. * Witness to the remarkable advancement in the field of virus structure and assembly * A unique opportunity to compare and contrast mechanisms adopted by a diverse range of viruses from bacteriophages and RNA viruses to Bluetongue, Influenza and Hepatitis B * Numerous illustrations including color * Discussion on the VIPER database, a repository for all high-resolution structures of simple icosahedral viruses, and on application of mass spectrometry to the analysis of structures present in biological specimens, such as HIV-1

Synopsis of Cathode #4 Activation( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this report is to describe the activation of the fourth cathode installed in the DARHT-II Injector. Appendices have been used so that an extensive amount of data could be included without danger of obscuring important information contained in the body of the report. The cathode was a 612 M type cathode purchased from Spectra-Mat. Section II describes the handling and installation of the cathode. Section III is a narrative of the activation based on information located in the Control Room Log Book supplemented with time plots of pertinent operating parameters. Activation of the cathode was performed in accordance with the procedure listed in Appendix A. The following sections provide more details on the total pressure and constituent partial pressures in the vacuum vessel, cathode heater power/filament current, and cathode temperature
Simulating Electron Clouds in High-Current Ion Accelerators with Solenoid Focusing( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Contamination from electrons is a concern for the solenoid-focused ion accelerators being developed for experiments in high-energy-density physics (HEDP). These electrons are produced directly by beam ions hitting lattice elements and intercepting diagnostics, or indirectly by ionization of desorbed neutral gas, and they are believed responsible for time dependence of the beam radius, emittance, and focal distance seen on the Solenoid Transport Experiment (STX) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The electrostatic particle-in-cell code WARP has been upgraded to included the physics needed to simulate electron-cloud phenomena. We present preliminary self-consistent simulations of STX experiments suggesting that the observed time dependence of the beam stems from a complicated interaction of beam ions, desorbed neutrals, and electrons
The Modular Point Design for Heavy Ion Fusion( )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We report on an ongoing study on modular Heavy Ion Fusion drivers. The modular driver is characterized by 10 to 20 nearly identical induction linacs, each carrying a single high current beam. In this scheme, the Integrated Research Experiment (IRE) can be one of the full size induction linacs. Hence, this approach offers significant advantages in terms of driver development path. For beam transport, these modules use solenoids which are capable of carrying high line charge densities, even at low energies. A new injector concept allows compression of the beam to high line densities right at the source. The final drift compression is performed in a plasma, in which the large repulsive space charge effects are neutralized. Finally, the beam is transversely compressed onto the target, using either external solenoids or current-carrying channels (in the Assisted Pinch Mode of beam propagation). We will report on progress towards a self-consistent point design from injector to target. Considerations of driver architecture, chamber environment as well as the methodology for meeting target requirements of spot size, pulse shape and symmetry will also be described. Finally, some near-term experiments to address the key scientific issues will be discussed
