Drugs and violence : causes, correlates, and consequences( )

3 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 175 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is based on the papers and discussion from a technical review held by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute of Justice in 1989. The papers cover both qualitative and quantitative approaches to research on the relationship between substance abuse and violence. The authors deal with the development of conceptual frameworks, and the observation, description, treatment, prevention, and prediction of drug abuse and related violence. Among the various aspects of the drugs and violence nexus examined are: violence and aggression in crack distribution networks in New York and Detroit; correlations between illicit drug abuse and domestic violence; links among gangs, drugs, and violence; crack and violence among juvenile delinquents; the relation between prostitution, drugs, and violence; problems with using police data for research on drug-related violent crimes; and links between mental illness, drugs, and violence
