This report summarizes construction activities of the design-build project, "IR (CX)70-4(143)" in Region I. Under the Special Experimental Project No. 14 (SEP 14), FHWA approved the design-build concept to be used for the 12-mile reconstruction of I-70 from Airpark Road East. Included in the report is an overview of the significant events, results of a survey questionnaire on design-build methodology, discussion of construction modification orders (CMO) and quality control/quality assurance processes

PCCP texturing methods by Ahmad Ardani ( Book )
3 editions published between 1995 and 2000 in English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report presents a 5-year evaluation and construction details of nine test sections with varying textural characteristics. Included in the report is an overview of the methodologies used to texture concrete pavement surfaces and a discussion of frictional attributes of various textures at different speeds and their impact on noise properties. Also included in the report are descriptions of texture-measuring devices and texture-installing equipment, a description of the state-of-the-art equipment used to acquire sound pressure levels, plus a thorough discussion of data acquisition/analysis. Frictional characteristics of the individual test sections were evaluated using the ASTM E 274 skid testing procedure
Special polymer modified asphalt cements : final report by Donna S Harmelink ( Book )
4 editions published between 1992 and 1997 in English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This study evaluated and compared the effectiveness of polymer-modified asphalt mixes in improving the performance of the roadway in relation to rutting and cracking as compared to our standard mixes without modified binders. The addition of various polymers used in this study did not enhance the rut resistance potential of the mix, however the addition of the polymer did reduce the amount of transverse and longitudinal cracking to some extent
Common performance measures practioner's guidebook ( Book )
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This guidebook presents a methodology that uses performance measures common to various transportation modes to perform simplified corridor/project analyses. Evaluation of performance across alternatives and modes is done through a series of manual worksheets by applying an approach based on five core areas including measures of mobility, agency cost, safety, user costs, and air quality. The evaluation can be limited to an analysis based on measures of effectiveness (MOE) or completed to include a measure of economic efficiency. To calculate the measures for each of the core areas, the analyst must describe the corridor or project to be analyzed, conceptualize the alternatives to be examined, collect baseline data pertinent to those alternatives and the chosen analysis framework, and aggregate the corridor into logical segments. For cases where some local data are unavailable, the guidebook includes a series of reference tables with default and average values for variables and parameters involved in the evaluation. After the MOEs under the baseline, No-build, and alternative conditions for each analysis year are summarized, the analyst can employ a multi-criteria ranking approach to select the best alternative action based on performance measures or perform an economic efficiency analysis
Noise and skid measurements on US285 in the Turkey Creek Canyon area : project NH 2854-068 by Robert LaForce ( Book )
3 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report documents the noise measurements taken using a single vehicle on four different pavement surface textures. The pavements were located on US285 southwest of Denver, Colorado. Noise measurements were taken inside the vehicle, 25 ft from the center of the closest driving lane, and near the right rear tire. Skid testing was performed at 40 mph in conformance with the American Society for Testing and Materials procedure E 274 for a ribbed tire. The surface types included longitudinal tined concrete, transverse tined concrete, ground concrete, and an asphalt surface (3/8 in. nominal Stone Mastic Asphalt)
Cracking in bridge decks : causes and mitigation by Pui-shum B Shing ( Book )
2 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report summarizes the findings of a study whose primary objectives are to determine the cause of extensive transverse cracking that has been observed in some existing bridge decks, and to identify the change of material specifications and construction practice that is necessary to reduce the severity of deck cracking. To achieve these goals, recent studies on the cause of bridge deck cracking were reviewed, an experimental study was conducted to compare the shrinkage properties of different concrete mixes, and the current material and design specifications and construction practice adopted by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) were reviewed to identify areas that need improvement. A survey was conducted on seven newly constructed bridges to examine the extent of cracking in concrete decks that were constructed with the different mix designs and curing procedure that were currently used by CDOT
