Common performance measures practioner's guidebook(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This guidebook presents a methodology that uses performance measures common to various transportation modes to perform simplified corridor/project analyses. Evaluation of performance across alternatives and modes is done through a series of manual worksheets by applying an approach based on five core areas including measures of mobility, agency cost, safety, user costs, and air quality. The evaluation can be limited to an analysis based on measures of effectiveness (MOE) or completed to include a measure of economic efficiency. To calculate the measures for each of the core areas, the analyst must describe the corridor or project to be analyzed, conceptualize the alternatives to be examined, collect baseline data pertinent to those alternatives and the chosen analysis framework, and aggregate the corridor into logical segments. For cases where some local data are unavailable, the guidebook includes a series of reference tables with default and average values for variables and parameters involved in the evaluation. After the MOEs under the baseline, No-build, and alternative conditions for each analysis year are summarized, the analyst can employ a multi-criteria ranking approach to select the best alternative action based on performance measures or perform an economic efficiency analysis

Life cycle cost analysis state-of-the-practice by
Jay Goldbaum(
Book
)
2 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report provides an outline for the engineer seeking to conduct a Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) in pavement design and selection. The guidance, recommendations, and default values provided here were collected from 10 years of paving projects. Most of these projects were constructed or rehabilitated in the mid 1980s in order to evaluate the current design and construction practices in the State of Colorado. At this time, the Colorado Department of Transportation uses a deterministic approach to the LCCA and is researching the move toward a probabilistic LCCA

Noise and skid measurements on US285 in the Turkey Creek Canyon area : project NH 2854-068 by Robert LaForce(
Book
)
2 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report documents the noise measurements taken using a single vehicle on four different pavement surface textures. The pavements were located on US285 southwest of Denver, Colorado. Noise measurements were taken inside the vehicle, 25 ft from the center of the closest driving lane, and near the right rear tire. Skid testing was performed at 40 mph in conformance with the American Society for Testing and Materials procedure E 274 for a ribbed tire. The surface types included longitudinal tined concrete, transverse tined concrete, ground concrete, and an asphalt surface (3/8 in. nominal Stone Mastic Asphalt)

Cracking in bridge decks : causes and mitigation by
Pui-shum B Shing(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report summarizes the findings of a study whose primary objectives are to determine the cause of extensive transverse cracking that has been observed in some existing bridge decks, and to identify the change of material specifications and construction practice that is necessary to reduce the severity of deck cracking. To achieve these goals, recent studies on the cause of bridge deck cracking were reviewed, an experimental study was conducted to compare the shrinkage properties of different concrete mixes, and the current material and design specifications and construction practice adopted by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) were reviewed to identify areas that need improvement. A survey was conducted on seven newly constructed bridges to examine the extent of cracking in concrete decks that were constructed with the different mix designs and curing procedure that were currently used by CDOT

Long-term performance of accelerated rigid pavements, project CXMP 13-0006-07 : final report by
Ahmad Ardani(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This report describes the post-construction evaluation of the fast track pavement in Sterling, Colorado. The field evaluation consisted of visual inspection, fault measurement, profile measurement and distress survey. A set of falling weight deflectometer (FWD) measurements was also acquired to assess the structural responses and to evaluate load transfer efficiency between the slabs. The results of this study demonstrated that fast track concrete can be as durable as the conventional concrete pavement. After seven years of being in service the pavement has shown no sign of fatigue, only some minor distresses unrelated to fast track techniques

I-76 truck study by David A Price(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Portions of the driving lane on I-76 located in the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) Region 4 are seriously distressed. To help prolong the life of the Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Region 4 has placed signs advising truckers to use the passing lane between Roggen and the Nebraska state line [approximately 140 miles (225 km)]. A test section well within the signed test area advising the truckers to use the passing lane and a control section just prior to the signed area were established and evaluated over a four year period. Roughness data taken with an Ames Profilograph, slab faulting measured with a Georgia fault meter, and overall physical pavement distress were noted and used as a comparison between driving lane and passing lane within the two sections
