In un elegante parco londinese la piccola Alice ascolta svogliatamente la sorella maggiore, che le sta leggendo brani di storia inglese. Insofferente alla lezione, la piccola vagheggia, col gattino Oreste, un mondo tutto suo, totalmente diverso, ®assurdō. E, d'improvviso, nel parco appare un coniglio bianco, vestito di tutto punto, che sta andando di gran fretta a un appuntamento per il quale dice di essere in ritardo. Alice lo segue all'interno di una stretta cavità sotterranea e si ritrova in uno strano mondo: attraverso porte sempre più piccole, grazie ad una pozione che le consente di rimpicciolirsi, raggiunge prima un mare che sembra originato dalle sue stesse lacrime. Qui incontra Capitan Libeccio, per approdare, poi, in un sinistro bosco, al cui interno fa la conoscenza dei bislacchi Pinco Panco e Panco Pinco, i quali le raccontano della triste fine di alcune simpatiche ostrichette. Poi s'imbatte nella casa del coniglio bianco (chiamato, per l'appunto, Bianconiglio): al suo int erno, assaggia un biscotto magico, che la fa diventare altissima. Alice, dunque, è prigioniera della casa, ma, mentre Capitan Libeccio programma di incendiare la casa stessa per debellare il "mostro" apparso al suo interno (cioè la stessa Alice), la ragazzina coglie una carota dall'orto di Bianconiglio, la mangia e diventa, stavolta, piccolissima. Riprende, dunque, a inseguire Bianconiglio, che nel frattempo ha ripreso la sua corsa ricordandosi di essere sempre in ritardo per il fantomatico appuntamento. La ragazzina fa altri incontri bislacchi: alcuni fiori che le cantano una graziosa canzone, lo Stregatto che appare e scompare, il Cappellaio Matto e il Leprotto Bisestile che stanno festeggiando, tra tazze e teiere, la loro festa di non compleanno. A un certo punto, Alice vorrebbe tornare a casa, ma si è persa. Lo Stregatto la indirizza verso il castello della Regina di Cuori (la regina, cioè, di quello strano reame): dopo un'assurda partita a croquet, e costretta a subire un process o. Alice riesce a fuggire. Poi, si sveglia: è stato tutto un sogno. La ragazzina, con la sorella, si avvia verso casa a prendere il tè
