A league table of child poverty in rich nations( Book )

4 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

UNICEF's Innocenti Research Center released a data report on child poverty in the industrialized world. The report offers statistics on the number of children in developed countries who live in relative and absolute poverty--the first defined by living in a household with an income of below 50 percent of the national median, the second defined by the now 35-year-old formula first developed during President Johnson's War on Poverty, usually referred to as "the poverty line."
Early marriage : child spouses by Maggie Black( Book )

4 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 90 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This digest focuses on early marriage--the marriage of children and young people under the age of 18--from a human rights perspective. Research into early marriage has tended to concentrate on specific aspects of its impact, such as the effects on reproductive health and school drop-out. There has been little examination of the practice as a child rights violation in itself. The digest examines the extent of early marriage, its context, its causes, and its impact on every aspect of the lives of those affected--particularly young girls--and on the wider society. It outlines strategies to help those who have been married at an early age, and for the prevention of early marriage through education, advocacy, and alliance building. The digest concludes with a call for more rights-based research on an issue that has far-reaching consequences. Contains data boxes alongside the text and extensive information sources. (BT)

<Within the last decade government of donor and developing countries have committed themselves to achieving a number of International Development Targets (IDTs) to be reached by 2015. These include halving the proportion of people living in extreme poverty and ensuring universal primary education. While the bulk of resources for this task will come from the national budgets of developing countries, without additional official development assistance (ODA) the task is daunting for most of the low-income countries.>
