The eclipse and recovery of beauty : a Lonergan approach by John D Dadosky( )

9 editions published between 2013 and 2017 in English and held by 915 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"According to the Swiss theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar, a world that has lost sight of beauty is a world riddled with skepticism, moral and aesthetic relativism, conflicting religious worldviews, and escalating ecological crises. In The Eclipse and Recovery of Beauty, John D. Dadosky uses Kierkegaard and Nietzsche's negative aesthetics to outline the context of that loss, and presents an argument for reclaiming beauty as a metaphysical property of being."--
Meaning and history in systematic theology : essays in honor of Robert M. Doran, SJ by John D Dadosky( )

12 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 808 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This Festschrift is written in honor of theologian and philosopher Robert Doran, one of the most creative and important Lonergan scholars working today. His magnum opus, Theology and the Dialectics of History (1990), integrated his reworking of depth psychology into a theory of history that serves as a foundation not only for systematic theology, but also for interdisciplinary collaboration. It relies on Lonergan's seminal contribution to the reversal of the post-Enlightenment crisis of meaning, that is, his emphasis on the subject's intelligent and responsible self-appropriation as the foundation of epistemology, metaphysics, and human collaboration. Doran's achievement is a profound development of this work, and it provides fecund ground that enables Lonergan's legacy to make itself felt across the humanities, the human sciences, and beyond. The range of contributions contained in this volume points to the immense significance of Doran's work, and they cover topics as varied as communication studies, critical-history, depth psychology, pastoral theology, philosophy, religious diversity, and systematic theology. These different concentrations ensure that this collection of essays is of use to readers who are curious about the relevance of Lonergan's critical-realism to a breadth of scholarly disciplines. It is also of acute interest to established scholars who are well aware of the merits of Doran's contributions to Lonergan Studies, and who wish to gain an understanding of the directions in which his work is being both employed and developed."--
Method in theology by Bernard J. F Lonergan( )

8 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 594 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Method in Theology stands with Insight as Bernard Lonergan’s most important work. It is Lonergan’s answer to those who would argue that in this time of cultural change and dissolution, the believer is afloat on a sea of multiplying theologies, without rudder or compass. Lonergan was resolute in his refusal to be defeatist on this point. While agreeing that theology must continually change to mediate between religion and culture, he worked out an integral method to guide and control this ongoing process. Method in Theology is the fruit of this labour. This critical edition has benefited from extensive research into Lonergan's typescripts and from consulting the recordings from several institutes where he lectured over the course of the work’s development. Lonergan's intention was to provide a set of methods that would guide a collaborative community in the ongoing construction of a theology that would move from recovery of the data through resolution of conflicts to contemporary formulations and applications. With this work, the cognitional theory of Insight: A Study of Human Understanding underwent a surprising set of developments in the form of what he calls functional specialization

"Iconography is undergoing a revival in twenty-first-century American Catholicism. William Hart McNichols, who paints in his studio in New Mexico, is one of the most popular iconographers of this renaissance, and this book comprises a selection of his icons and sacred images. The book presents images of holy women and holy men as well as images of Mary and Jesus. Philosopher and theologian John D. Dadosky introduces each piece and demonstrates how McNichols's paintings communicate sacred stories as well as mark significant moments in the artist's personal development."--
