"There is no doubt about precisely when folks began racing each other in automobiles. It was when they built the second automobile."--Richard Petty. This very appropriate quotation begins this celebration of the NASCAR experience. This film puts the history of the sport in context, placing emphasis on the technical details surrounding the cars, drivers, and fans. It covers the people inhabiting pit row, building the cars, and the elements of an engine block, leaving viewers feeling as if they have been present at the birth of a NASCAR chariot. The film then centers on observations of one family group near the Karisoke Research Center in the Parc National des Volcans of Rwanda. Gorillas are shown foraging, feeding and resting. Infants, including one only two days old, are seen with their mothers, breastfeeding, trying new foods, and riding on their mothers' backs. Infants and juveniles are seen at play, and vocalizations of all gorillas are heard. The film also discusses the gorilla diet, the role of play in establishing the group hierarchy, conservation and protection efforts, and the continuing loss of habitat. Gorillas are shown wandering outside the park in search of food, in view of local (human) inhabitants
