A recording of a live performance of Verdi's opera Il Trovatore, given in Catania in 1990. The opera revolves around its two female characters. Azucena is the daughter of a gypsy who, 15 years before, was burned as a witch for cursing the young son of a nobleman. In revenge, Azucena abducted the son to throw into the embers of the same fire, but in her distress, threw in her own son. She has brought up the other child as her own. Leonora is a Lady-in-waiting at court who is loved by two men, the Count di Luna, who is the elder son of the nobleman who had Azucena's mother burned, and Manrico, the Troubadour, and the leader of rebel forces engaged in civil war against the Count. Tragedy results when these four come together. This recording of the opera unfortunately has only second rate sound and visual quality, particularly in the first and third acts. Also, the overture and the final minutes of the last act were not recorded
