His mother is very upset but the beans turn out to be magic ones. When planted they grow to a tremendous height. Jack climbs up the stalk and finds a castle at the top belonging to a giant. He meets the giant's daughter but when the giant returns Jack has to flee taking a magic hen with him. He is chased down the beanstalk by the giant but manages to cut it down just in time
