The city police have arrested a few underlings in the organization responsible, but the Attorney couldn't find enough evidence to convict them and they were released. It's clear to Tom Beatty and to the mayor that the leader of this organized crime is the man known as The Gorgon. After conferring with the Mayor, Tom took a cab to the home of young Danny McKee. Danny, like Tom, noticed everything. As he is nearing the McKee apartment building, he notices Danny's father, Lee McKee, on the street, arguing with a man, Amos Benjamin, the owner of a second hand store down the street. Tom rides the cab around the corner to give McKee some privacy. When he gets out ot the cab, he hears a shot fired and a call for help. Old Amos is dead, and Lee is standing with a gun in his hand

It was New Year's Eve. A police sedan sped through the city to the White Way Club, where the young D.A. Assistant, Lee Lanthrop intended to catch organized gambling ring head, Otis Crandall directing his unlicensed casino. But the second floor room was empty and as witnesses failed to show up or refused to testify, Lanthrop's case was just as empty. The judge dismissed it. Lanthrop went back to his office where he was joined by a fellow he'd seen at police headquarters. He introduced himself as Packy Barnes, from the Dept. of Justice--a G-Man. As they went over the case, Packy shared he wasn't looking for proof of breaking local gambling ordinances but would look further. He wanted to find evidence on a federal level that could put Crandall away for a long, long time. Then he mentioned training: The FBI had a school in Washington where Police officers would learn how to find evidence that would stick

Windy Wayne and the flying wing by R. R Winterbotham( Book )

1 edition published in 1942 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

First Lieutenant Winthrop Wayne, "Windy", was on his way to Hawaii for his new assignment. Like most Americans, he was eager to give some payback to the people who attacted Pearl Harbor. The base he was sent to was hidden in an underground facility that could send out aircraft by the score if needed. It was camoflaged to look like a hayfield and fooled Windy as his plane passed over them. As the days progressed, Windy followed a squadron as it chased off an enemy patrol, learning tactics and assessing plane design. New designs were sent to his desk for study and evaluation. The one that interested him the most was called the "flying wing". Ever since the first World War, aircraft designers had looked for solutions to cut down on tail-drag. While a plane's tail is necessary for most planes, its drag requires more power to move the ship. This new design eliminated the tail entirely, and the design focused on lift. As Windy is looking at the specifications, his office door suddenly opened and in walked a Japanese, in uniform
