Inviscid modes of instability in spiral flow by E. T. Y Lee( )

2 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The stability of an inviscid fluid between rotating cylinders with an axial flow is considered under the small gap approximation. When the axial flow is small compared to the rotational velocity, a new perturbation method differing in several respects from the conventional method was devised. It was found that the presence of the axial flow has a stabilizing effect, and that the correction to the growth rates of the pure rotation case is of second-order in the axial to rotational velocity ratio. Furthermore, the instabilities are confined to only a finite range of wave numbers

A theory of tidal mixing in an essentially vertically homogeneous estuary by Leonard C Maximon( Book )

1 edition published in 1953 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An equation is derived governing the distribution of a solute in an estuary in which river flow and tides are the predominant factors and in which dynamic and mixing conditions can be described by a simple physical model. Various generalizations of the model are discussed, and an equation is derived which allows for time dependence of the quantities involved and the for introduction of solute into the estuary by an external agent
