The platoon is formed of four French and 41 Laotians under their command. The order is to reach the entrenched camp of Dien Bien Phu ; 8 days later, the platoon will be destroyed, Dien Bien Phu will have fallen. Schoendoerffer follows the men through the jungle as they are slowly annihilated in ambushes, in attacks, and by diseases.
