Over the river : project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado by Christo( Book )

3 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 122 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1992, the infamous environmental installation artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude took their first trip west in search of a site for a new temporary artwork--in this case, a stream of successive transluscent fabric panels that would be suspended for two summer weeks across the banks of a Rocky Mountain river, high enough above the water to allow kayakers, rafters or pedestrians to drift along below it, and close enough to a road that the piece could be approached and enjoyed by car or bus. On subsequent trips they investigated the headwaters of 89 rivers in six states, logging 14,000 miles onto their odometer, until they finally settled on a site along the Arkansas River in the state of Colorado. Then they began the arduous process of getting permission from all of the necessary local bureaurocracies and activist groups. This book documents the process from 1992 until 2005, at which point the artists were still only halfway there. (The project will not come to fruition until the year 2010 at the earliest.) As with all previous projects, Over the River is financed entirely by Christo and Jeanne-Claude through the sale of preparatory work. These drawings, lithographs, collages and scale models are presented here, together with comprehensive documentary photographs
Christo and Jeanne-Claude : the floating piers : Lake Iseo, Italy, 2014-2016 by Jonathan Henery( Book )

3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 95 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Floating Piers" is Christo and Jeanne-Claude's first large scale project since they realized "The Gates" in 2005 and draws upon their established history of projects in Italy, including "Wrapped Fountain" and "Wrapped Medieval Tower" in Spoleto, 1968; "Wrapped Monuments" in Milan, 1970; and "The Wall - Wrapped Roman Wall" in Rome, 1973-4. As with all of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's projects, "The Floating Piers" is funded entirely through the sale of Christo's original works of art. After the 16-day exhibition, all components have been removed and recycled. This book presents rich photographic coverage of "The Floating Piers" alongside sketches, models, documents and designs, revealing the process behind this waterborne work of art. Incorporating everything from approval procedures to the manufacture of fabric and anchoring elements, it testifies not only to Christo and Jeanne-Claude's unique creative imagination but also to the immense technical, bureaucratic, and logistical feats that allowed the concept to take float. The book was published after the exhibition ended and includes photographs of the project. Exhibition: Lake Iseo, Italy (18.06.-03.07.2016)
Alfred Stieglitz, Camera work : the complete photographs 1903-1917( Book )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 89 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Photographer, writer, publisher, and curator Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946) was a visionary far ahead of his time. Around the turn of the 20th century, he founded the Photo-Secession, a progressive movement concerned with advancing the creative possibilities of photography, and by 1903 began publishing Camera Work, an avant-garde magazine devoted to voicing the ideas, both in images and words, of the Photo-Secession. Camera Work was the first photo journal whose focus was visual, rather than technical, and its illustrations were of the highest quality hand-pulled photogravure printed on Japanese tissue. (Editor)

1000 chairs by Charlotte Fiell( Book )

2 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 61 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Chairs displayed on their own as pure form. More than any other piece of furniture, the chair has been subjected to the wildest dreams of the designers. The particular curve of a backrest, or the twist of a leg, the angle of a seat or the color of the entire artifact all reflect the stylistic consciousness of each era. From Gerrit Rietveld and Alvar Aalto to Verner Panton to Eva Zeisel, from Art Nouveau to International Style, from Pop Art to Postmodernism, the phenomenon of the chair is so complex that it requires a reference work as comprehensive as this to do it full justice. They are all here: Thonet s bentwood chairs and Hoffmann s sitting-machines, Marcel Breuer's Wassily chair and Ron Arad's avant-garde armchairs. The book devotes one page to each chair, displayed on its own as pure form, with biographical and historical information about the chairs and their designers. A special treat for anyone who loves design and a must for collectors!"--
