Blow up
(
Visual
)
6 editions published between 1966 and 2004 in English and held by 17 libraries worldwide Thomas, a young photographer in 'swinging' London, finds that he may have photographed a murder. As in several of his other films (L'Avventura and Passenger for example), Antonioni uses the narrative structure of the detective story while changing its intent. Nothing is discovered in the course of the narrative which is diverted from the search for an elusive image and finally loses itself. Objects assume a life of their own. Personal relationships become so attenuated that they virtually disappear. Thomas' confidence in his perception of reality, always tenuous, finally collapses. Antonioni uses spatial depth and appearances to question the viewer's sense of what is real and what is not.
