The governance of relations in markets and organizations by Werner Raub( Book )

16 editions published between 2003 and 2009 in English and held by 196 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Transactions often differ on important dimensions from spot exchanges on perfect neo-classical markets. Information is seldom complete and instantaneous exchange is just as rare as full competition. The authors in this volume extend the standard economic model stressing the proposition that the social context is an important determinant of the governance of transactions. To foster the development of a body of cumulative knowledge in the new economic sociology, this approach is consistently applied to a diversity of topics including purchase relations, strategic alliances, and relations among lawyers and clients as well as employers and employees. This volume is divided in three parts. The first part surveys purposive behaviour models in research on governance as well as theoretical work extending these models. The contributions in the second and third part all have an empirical component and deal with governance in the various phases of exchange relations: search and selection, negotiating and contracting, contract execution and performance, and conflict regulation. The second part focuses on governance in markets, while the third part discusses governance in organizations
Trust and commitments by Chris Snijders( Book )

11 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 76 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

When and why do we trust other people? Do we trust someone only if abused trust has insignificant consequences? Do we base the decision to trust someone on that person's looks? Are males more likely to trust other people than females? Trust facilitates both social and economic life as it eases the burden of unspecified reciprocation. However, trust is risky: unjustified trust might lead to undesirable consequences. This book addressed the way in which people balance the costs and benefits of trusting and the way in which commitments may enhance trust. Using a simple game as a metaphor for trust, theoretical predictions are derived and confronted with the behavior of people in an experimental setting

How is service procurement different from goods procurement? Exploring ex ante costs and ex post problems in IT procurement( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract: Several studies suggest that, in practice, service procurement is more challenging than goods procurement. The underlying but largely implicit argument is that the procurement process for services involves higher buyer uncertainty and therefore requires extra efforts to mitigate this uncertainty. Drawing on Transaction Cost Economics, we use a database of information technology transactions to investigate the relationship between transaction characteristics and social embeddedness, and ex ante cost and ex post problems. We explore whether the same relationships hold across transactions that involve only goods versus transactions that also involve services. Our findings support conventional wisdom that managing the procurement process for transactions involving services is more challenging than for transactions involving goods. However, when controlling for typical transaction characteristics, there is no difference between transactions involving goods and transactions that also involve services. Highlights: One of the first studies to compare the execution of procurement activities for goods versus services. Managing the procurement process for service transactions is more costly and problematic. Classical transaction characteristics explain these transaction cost differences
