Lum (Lauck) courts spinster Geraldine (Pitts) in the second installment of the popular Lum and Abner series, based on their radio show. The chaste love birds fill evenings reading heroic tales of knights of old. Romance is obvious between the two; however, they are both too shy to express their true feelings. Lum and Abner (Goff) concoct a plan to stage several phony emergencies, from which Lum will rescue Abner in the hopes of getting Geraldine to fall for him. The plan goes hilariously awry as Lum and Abner's adventures lead them to realize that the truest heroic trait of all is modesty
