Louis I. Kahn--architect : remembering the man and those who surrounded him by Charles E Dagit( Book )

7 editions published between 2013 and 2018 in English and held by 152 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Few people in the history of art and architecture have planted a seed of inspiration that grew to become a towering oak of lasting influence. There are those, particularly colleagues and students of Louis I. Kahn, who would say that he was one of these people. Certainly Kahn was one of the foremost architects of the twentieth century, designing such famous landmarks as the National Assembly Building in Dhaka, Bangladesh; the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California; and the Kimbell Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. In this commemorative volume, Charles E. Dagit, Jr. shows the power and influence that Kahn displayed at the University of Pennsylvania department of architecture in the 1960s. Since Dagit knew Kahn personally, this is a factual history as well as a glimpse into Kahn's personal wisdom and humanity. Beginning with a prelude that starts with the author's undergraduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, Dagit launches readers on an intellectual journey of how he first met Kahn. From there he details his experiences with Kahn and explores Kahn's interactions with Penn faculty members, including Mario Romanach, Robert Le Ricolet, and Aldo Giurgola. This first-hand account sheds fascinating new light on one of the most prominent architects of the twentieth century
Building : Louis I. Kahn at Roosevelt Island by Barney Kulok( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 115 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In September 2011, Barney Kulok was granted permission to create photographs at the construction site of Louis I. Kahn's Four Freedoms Park in New York City, commissioned in 1970 as a memorial to Franklin D. Roosevelt. The last design Kahn completed before his untimely death in 1974, Four Freedoms Park remained an unrealized work by one of the masters of twentieth-century architecture. Forty years after the original commission, it was finally completed in 2012. Unbuilt is at once a historical record and a multilayered visual investigation of form and the subtleties of texture--elements that were of fundamental importance to Kahn's approach . As architect Steven Holl writes, "Kulok's photographs free the subject matter from a literal interpretation of the site. They stand as 'Equivalents' to the words about material, light and shadow that Louis Kahn often spoke

In less than fifty years agriculture has been transformed by synthetic chemicals which have had a serious impact on the environment and on the health of farm families. This film tells the story of two farmers. Herbert Smith championed the new miracle sprays of the 50's in his orange grove in Florida, while Fred Kirschenmann of North Dakota steered his land through the transition to organic farming to prove, 20 years later, that sustainable organic agriculture is a viable economic alternative for any size farm

My architect( Visual )

1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Louis Kahn, world-renowned architect of buildings including the Bangladeshi Capitol Building and the Salk Institute, had two illegitimate children with two different women outside his marriage. One of them, son Nathaniel, always hoped as a boy that his illustrious father might come to live with him and his mother, but Kahn never left his wife, and was instead found dead at Penn Station in 1974 when Nathaniel was just 11, having spent years in massive debt. In this film, Nathaniel Kahn traces his father's past from his childhood to the pinnacle of his career, and travels the world to look at the buildings he created. He also looks at Kahn's personal life, exploring the reasons for - and consequences of - his inability to cope with his personal and financial responsibilities. Throughout his journey he talks to his father's friends, family members, contemporaries, students and other associates
My architect : alla ricerca di Louis Kahn by Nathaniel Kahn( Visual )

7 editions published between 2003 and 2007 in 3 languages and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
